Rolando Maran said pressing was key to Chievo’s 2-0 victory at Pescara and he won’t rule out a push for European qualification.

This result put the Flying Donkeys in third place with 13 points.

“We are up there now, but know full well what we expect from our season,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“We played the game the way we wanted to, keeping a decent amount of possession and showing great maturity. I am also happy that the forwards got their first goals of the campaign.

“Thinking of safety is the primary objective, but that doesn’t mean we preclude anything else. We go out there to get the maximum points and our position right now is that of a team that tries to take it one game at a time without looking at the table.

“Pescara pass the ball well and have a lot of quality, so we knew that if we didn’t press them hard on the ball, we’d suffer today. Chievo cannot work without pressing, but must also improve when we’re on the ball and I think we’re achieving that.

“When we took the lead, we continued to press and that is the step forward we wanted to take in terms of mentality. I always tell the lads they have to be responsible for their own results and be active, not passive, to take the game to the opposition.”
