Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero assures Coach Marco Giampaolo “is untouchable,” but glosses over Daniele Pradè rumours.

The patron spoke to Sky Sport Italia after reports Giampaolo would be sacked if he failed to win the Genoa Derby this weekend.

“Giampaolo is untouchable, he is the Coach chosen by me,” said Ferrero as he left the training ground.

“There was no need to fire up the team, as they know what they have to do. I came here to bring a little positive energy, as at the moment we are rather unlucky. I had a good chat and saw the players hungry for success.

“They said to me: ‘President, don’t worry, we’ll be chomping up the grass at Marassi.’ It’s a shame Emiliano Viviano is injured, but hopefully Christian Puggioni can do even better than him, even if that’s practically impossible.”

Sampdoria have managed just two points from the last six rounds, so is Ferrero satisfied with that?

“An ambitious person like me is never satisfied. I won’t make predictions on the derby, as last time I tried that it came back to bite me, so I’ll just say may the best team win.”

What of reports Samp are due to hire ex-Fiorentina and Roma director of sport Pradè – is it true he is on the way?

“You’d have to ask him that, it’s not as if I’m at the check-in of Rome Airport.”
