Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa reveals why he had “no doubts” about choosing Inter and how he’s adapting to Serie A football.

The Brazilian arrived from Santos at the end of the summer transfer session, but has made only one 16-minute substitute appearance.

“I officially became an Inter player on my birthday and that was a magnificent gift, because now I am at a club that made football history,” he told Il Guerin Sportivo magazine.

“It’s a fantastic feeling and extra motivation to give my best. I could’ve gone to China, where they were offering a lot of money, in Spain or England, but from the very start I had no doubts.

“I was won over by the passion of the people. I promise the fans great effort and determination, even if I have to adapt to a very different League than I am accustomed to.

“Italian football is more tactical, but we have a great team and want to win, because we’ve got everything it takes to achieve that.

“That includes the Scudetto. The Inter fans are exceptional and I am very happy with their affectionate welcome. Playing at San Siro is marvellous and I hope it’ll become my home the same way the Vila Belmiro was at Santos.”

There is still some confusion over where Gabigol will actually play in the Inter line-up.

“I spoke to Frank de Boer many times and he knows I have no preferences for my position. I can play as a wide forward or in the centre, but can also move a few metres back.

“It is up to me to adapt to the requests of my Coach and work hard in training to prove myself.”
