Despite Fabio Quagliarella’s penalty being saved, the Blucerchiati still emerged 2-1 winners thanks to Luis Muriel and an Armando Izzo own goal.

“We played the way we always do,” insisted the Coach in his Press conference.

“We only ran some risks on long balls and these are aspects we must improve. We approached this game with less confidence compared to Genoa, but the team gave a strong response.

“It was my first Derby della Lanterna and I hope it wasn’t my last! It is a really colourful occasion, very exciting. Our fans never abandoned us, even in previous games where we struggled. I remember our last home match, we equalised at the death thanks to their encouragement.

“If you win the derby, it’s an extraordinary feeling. The victory puts us back on track and boosts our confidence, but we have to keep taking it one game at a time.

“This sort of performance gives you positive energy and allows us to face the future with less pressure. I think (Genoa Coach Ivan) Juric’s comments yesterday fired my men up, so really I should thank him.

“Quagliarella hadn’t missed a penalty since 2009, so he is a consolidated taker. I will always appreciate those who take on the responsibility in a game like this.”
