Ciro Immobile explained why Italy struggled in the second half with Liechtenstein and he’s “determined to be a protagonist” with Andrea Belotti.

The Lazio striker was on target in the 4-0 World Cup qualifier in Vaduz, along with a Belotti brace and Antonio Candreva.

“In the end we managed to do well. We knew that there had to be many goals, we had four in the first half and could’ve had as many in the second,” Immobile told Rai Sport.

“In the end we managed to do well. We knew that there had to be many goals, we had four in the first half and could’ve had as many in the second,” Immobile told Rai Sport.

“Ultimately we were playing away from home and just weren’t determined enough in front of goal in the second half. Once you get there, it’s not as easy as it looks.

“It was important not to underestimate the match, as Italy often struggle against the smaller teams, but we started out with the right attitude and motivation.

“Liechtenstein changed system in the second half, going to three at the back, and that caused us more problems, but we did get more crosses in and the box was rather packed.”

Immobile and ‘Gallo’ Belotti have quickly gone from second choice to first pick strikers for Italy under Giampiero Ventura.

“With Gallo we are building a great partnership and fortunately for us the Coach started it with us last season at Torino, so we’ve got an advantage.

“We know the Nazionale is a unique chance with so many players doing well, so we know that we have to give our best to stay there.

“I started out as a first choice in the Antonio Conte era, then through my own fault I didn’t keep up the standard of performances and couldn’t play the Euros the way I wanted to.

“I don’t want to make that mistake again and am determined to be a protagonist at the World Cup in 2018.”
