“It’s difficult to say what could have been done,” Daniele Piraino told the Bolognese edition of La Repubblica.

“Of course the forcing was out of the ordinary, but it seemed necessary at the time.

“I’d rather look at the end result: the lad is now playing for a top club, Bologna made a huge profit and Napoli secured a prospect wanted by all of Italy’s biggest clubs.

“Only winners emerged from this war.”
