Mazzarri: 'Napoli living a dream'

Walter Mazzarri's Napoli are in the thick of the Scudetto race ahead of the game with Udinese. “We are living a dream.”

The Vesuviani haven't been this high up the table since they last won the title in 1990 and are within three points of leaders Milan.

“We are proud to have brought so much enthusiasm to the city,” smiled the Coach, as this season they have filled 1m seats at the San Paolo.

“We are already living a dream, so what could yet come would be above and beyond our dreams.

“It's not true that we have less pressure on us than the other teams, as it would be very disappointing for us to take a step back in our objectives, having come so far.

“I have another two years on my contract and have nothing in my mind other than Napoli, although obviously at the end of every season both sides evaluate what has been done and plan for the next term.”

Mazzarri has a notoriously fiery personality and insisted he had not been trying to rile up rivals Milan.

“I don't look at what other clubs are doing and in the past only ever replied to provocation. I don't understand why people feel the urge to pass judgment on Napoli. Perhaps we are irritating the big clubs and nobody expected us to be so high up the table.”

Napoli welcome Udinese on Sunday evening, while Milan face Sampdoria and Inter travel to Parma today.

“Tomorrow's game is not much different to the others. At this moment we are second in the table, but have a tougher match compared to Inter and Milan.

“Udinese are a great side, I have immense respect for their Coach and we have got to focus on our opponents rather than look around at what others are doing.”

Alexis Sanchez and Antonio Di Natale are injured, so do not even make the trip, while Napoli welcome back Edinson Cavani from suspension.

“When a campaign is this tight, even coincidence can be decisive, as a result is down to so many tiny elements.”
