David Di Michele is battling to keep Lecce in Serie A, but reveals “Inter, Napoli and Arsenal wanted me.”
The veteran has played for the likes of Udinese, Reggina, Palermo, Torino and West Ham, but could've worn more prestigious jerseys.
“It's very true to say that when I was at Salernitana, my move to Napoli was all done. Then everything collapsed,” he told Premium Calcio.
“I was also close to Arsenal and above all Inter, but there was a bidding war and the Salernitana President stopped me from joining the Nerazzurri. I must admit, the train of opportunity passed me by.
“I have to thank Coach Gigi De Canio for having brought me to Lecce and above all allowing me to silence the sceptical critics. My contract expires in June, but as far as I'm concerned I would happily sign a renewal right now.”
Lecce's hopes of staying in Serie A received a huge boost at the weekend with a last-gasp win over Napoli.
The deciding goal from Javier Ernesto Chevanton was almost ignored, as after a delay the officials realised the ball had crossed the line.
“I don't know if the information was sent by radio from the fourth official, but if someone did intervene then they did a great thing for football. If that goal had not been given, it could've changed the season and heavily penalised Lecce.”
