Totti savours 'magic night'

Roma captain Francesco Totti has promised to tell his young son Cristian about Tuesday night's stunning comeback against Bayern Munich once he grows up.

Roma were 2-0 down at half-time, but managed to turn things around after the break, winning 3-2 in a game that will live long in the memory.

Writing in Il Corriere dello Sport, Totti admitted that the emotion of beating Bayern in such dramatic circumstances has yet to subside.

"Tuesday was a night worthy of Roma. It was one of those magic nights that stays inside you. I will tell Cristian about it when he is older," Totti wrote.

"It was a night that reflects the character of our team. We never gave up from the start to the finish.

"We didn't play to the best of our ability in the first half. We went two goals down. But above all we played like Roma. We were too timid against a big club who were finalists in the Champions League last year.

"In the second half we went out on the pitch with a different spirit. We put Bayern on the ropes, helped by a splendid crowd who supported us until the end and gave us the motivation to believe in the comeback.

"We managed to get back into a game that seemed compromised. Towards the end of the first half, I checked the Basel result and said to myself that only if Cluj drew would we be saved from probable elimination.

"Instead Daniele De Rossi's equaliser and my penalty came a few minutes later and we managed to overturn the result and our position in the group."
