Mertens back in training

Dries Mertens is back in Napoli training after being knocked unconscious, while there is also good news for Lorenzo Insigne.

The Belgian winger was left with concussion, severe dizziness and at one stage couldn’t even feel his legs after a horrific clash of heads in the Euro 2016 qualifier with Wales last week.

He resumed training today and posted a message on Twitter and Instagram.

Insigne: Staying positive

Lorenzo Insigne has revealed that Alex Del Piero, Javier Zanetti and Antonio Conte all called him to cheer him up after the injury.

The Italy international sustained a ruptured crucial ligament during Napoli’s 1-0 victory at Fiorentina.

Whilst it means that he will miss the remainder of the season, Insigne said that he has drawn strength from the encouragement he has received these days.

“I am happy to have had some great legends calling me,” Insigne told Sky Italia today.

‘No Giovinco-Napoli contact but…’

The agent of Juventus forward Sebastian Giovinco says there’s no truth in links to Napoli, but he doesn’t rule out a move either.

Giovinco’s contract in Turin expires at the end of the season, with some suggesting that the Vesuviani could move for the player in January with Lorenzo Insigne expected to be out for the rest of the season.

The Atomic Ant has again found playing time hard to come by at Juventus this season, making just two Serie A starts and playing only seven minutes in the Champions League thus far.

Insigne’s call-up called off

Just when things were falling into place for Lorenzo Insigne, his season seems to be over due to injury. Dave Taylor laments his loss for both Napoli and Italy.

Twenty four minutes into the away game with Fiorentina, Napoli’s talismanic winger, Lorenzo Insigne, was tackled in mid-stride and fell awkwardly on his right leg. A few minutes later the 23-year-old, still wincing in pain, slowly hobbled away with a heavily bandaged right knee.

Napoli target Insigne replacement

Napoli are being linked with a number of new signings after Lorenzo Insigne was ruled out for the season with a knee injury.

Insigne underwent surgery on a cruciate ligament injury yesterday, an injury which usually has a minimum recovery time of six months.

Insigne surgery ‘complete success’

Napoli have issued a statement stating that Lorenzo Insigne’s surgery on his cruciate ligament knee injury has been successful.

An earlier statement from the club had confirmed the 23-year-old had suffered rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during yesterday’s win at Fiorentina.
