Romagnoli equals Thiago Silva feat

Alessio Romagnoli was decisive against Genoa, and is the first Milan player to score for both teams since Thiago Silva in November 2009.

The captain was unfortunate to see Cristian Kouame’s shot ricochet off him and loop over Gianluigi Donnarumma, cancelling out a Suso opener.

However, he made up for it deep into stoppages with the winning goal.

Ionut Radu’s wayward punch fell to the edge of the box, where Romagnoli was alert for an acrobatic volley into the empty net.

Silva ‘believes’ in new-look Milan

Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva ‘believes’ in the new-look Milan and ‘will support the Rossoneri from afar’.

Silva was part of the last Milan squad to win the Scudetto in 2011 and was widely considered to have been sold to PSG against his will.

“I believe in this Milan. Milan needed them,” the 33-year-old told Gazzetta TV, referring to the returns of Leonardo and Paolo Maldini in non-playing roles.

“Milan can do well, Gattuso’s very good. I’ll support the Rossoneri from afar.”

WC Player Profile: Joao Miranda

Wearing the captain’s armband against Serbia, Inter man Joao Miranda is a rock in Brazil’s defence, writes Daryl Hammond.

The centre-back had previous failed attempts at European club football when young, but found his confidence at Atletico Madrid and went from strength to strength at Inter.

Brazil have always struggled at the back and the 7-1 World Cup defeat on home soil hammered home the need to change that.

Miranda went from stand-by player to key figure in Tite's back line.

Silva: Milan return ‘beautiful’

Thiago Silva admits he could not say ‘no’ to a second spell with Milan as ‘ending my career there would be beautiful’.

Silva made over 100 appearances for Milan between 2009 and 2012, winning a Scudetto with the Rossoneri, but their need to raise funds saw the defender follow Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Paris Saint-Germain for €42m.

Nonetheless, he told Gazzetta dello Sport: “Milan are in my heart and will be forever, how could I say ‘no’ to them?”
