Cagliari sign Bruno Alves

Cagliari officially signed Bruno Alves, who came as a free agent after leaving Fenerbahce.

The Portuguese defender will play for the Rossoblu for two years, though he has an option to extend his contract for a third season.

“More than seventy appearances in the Champions League, a leader of Portugal who is about to play the Euros in France, and one of the most respected and feared defenders in Europe,” reads an official statement on Cagliari's side.

Cagliari pick up Bruno Alves

Cagliari have secured Fenerbahce and Portugal centre-back Bruno Alves on a two-year contract.

The news was confirmed by Sky Sport Italia, who also had a picture of the player signing the deal.

It is believed to be a two-year contract with an option for the third.

He was a free agent, as his current deal with Fenerbahce expires on June 30.

The 34-year-old has played for Porto, Farense, Vitoria Guimaraes, AEK Athens and Zenit before joining Turkish side Fenerbahce in 2013.

Cagliari in talks with Bruno Alves

Cagliari President Tommaso Giulini revealed he would speak to Bruno Alves over a summer transfer on Thursday but ruled out a move for Alessandro Matri.

Alves, who was sent off in Portugal’s 1-0 defeat to England on Monday, can leave Fenerbahce on a free transfer as his contract is due to expire, and Giulini planned to meet the defender after the Wembley friendly, plus secure a deal for Juventus loanee Andres Tello – but not former Cagliari striker Matri.

Bruno Alves eyes Juventus switch

The father of Bruno Alves has revealed that the defender would jump at the chance to join Juventus this summer.

The Zenit and Portuguese stopper was linked with the club last August, but no agreement could be reached between the two clubs.
