Juve swoop for David Luiz?

English papers claim Juventus are the favourites to sign David Luiz if the Brazilian leaves Chelsea in January, replacing Benedikt Howedes.

The versatile 30-year-old can play in defence or midfield, which would suit the regular tactical tinkering of Coach Max Allegri.

David Luiz had a row with Antonio Conte after the 3-0 Champions League loss to Roma in October and has played only once since then.

He has been suffering from a knee injury, but Conte hinted he’d prefer Andreas Christensen even once Luiz found fitness.

However, it would still be at least lukewarm if Roma could strike back swiftly for Italian football in February and knock out the side that eliminated Napoli from the Champions League. That outcome alone, of course, should be warning enough for Eusebio Di Francesco’s team of the scale of the task it faces.
