Copa America postponed to 2021

Along with Euro 2020, the Copa America has also now been postponed to the summer of 2021 as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.

Sport all over the world has been shut down to avoid further spread of the virus, which has killed 2,158 people in Italy alone.

The Copa America was meant to play from June 12 to July 12, 2020, with games in Colombia and Argentina.

Instead, the new dates are the same as Euro 2020’s rescheduled slot, from June 11 to July 11 in 2021.

Official: Euro 2020 moved to 2021

It is now official that UEFA have postponed Euro 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, so the European Championship will run from June 11-July 11, 2021.

The decision had been effectively confirmed by the Norwegian and French Federations following today’s conference call with representatives of the 55 nations, Players’ Associations and more.

UEFA delays Euro until 2021

UEFA has postponed the European Championship until the summer of 2021, and the tournament will be carried out between June 11 and July 11.

The official announcement is expected later today, after a scheduled meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee, starting at 13:00 GMT.

The conrifmation arrives through the Norwegian FA (NFF) after the Coronavirus outbreak affecting Europe and its respective Leagues. The decision was inevitable, as almost every European League has been postponed because of the rapid spread of COVID-19 during the last month.

First UEFA meeting concluded

UEFA’s first meeting between the Leagues, ECA and FIFPro has been concluded ahead of the scheduled conference call of the UEFA Executive Committee.

The Coronavirus outbreak has put football on a standstill and the consequences for the European Leagues rely on the decision to postpone Euro 2020 this summer.

Both L'Equipe and Reuters have reported that UEFA have cancelled their hotel bookings in Copenhagen, signalling that the Finals will be postponed, but there's still no official announcement.

Boniek: 'UEFA faces big problem'

Member of UEFA's Executive Committee Zbigniew Boniek admits they are facing uncertain times and won’t be able to make a “final decision” during today’s meeting.

The Polish FA President and member of the UEFA board Boniek was interviewed by the Gazzetta dello Sport and that the organisation can "only discuss hypotheses" during their conference call today.

Zola: 'Other priorities need to be defended'

Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola says “other priorities need to be defended” in relation to England’s attitude towards the Coronavirus.

The Sardinian gave a lengthy interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport on the Coronavirus and the various issues surrounding the disease, which has brought sport, and Italy, to a standstill.

“The virus is a sneaky, dark evil. It can strike us even without realising it. The danger of contagion is real for anyone,” Zola told La Gazzetta.

Euro 2020 in winter?

UEFA could, according to Corriere della Sera, move the European Championship to November, and model Euro 2020 on the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

European football has been suspended due to the Coronavirus outbreak and the world of football eagerly await the decision about how to proceed and make up for the the current delay.

One of the most important decisions will be discussed during a conference call between UEFA and the respective Leagues tomorrow, Tuesday March 17, and the outcome for Euro 2020 will have an impact on the proceedings also for Serie A.

They were initially mocked for ‘over-reacting to a flu,’ but the rest of the continent and now much of the world has caught up. Final Four option for UEFA?

According to reports in Spain, UEFA are considering a Final Four style tournament in Istanbul and Gdansk for the Champions League and Europa League.

Time is running out to complete the various club tournaments, even if Euro 2020 is postponed this summer.

The coronavirus pandemic has forced all football to be shut down in Europe’s major leagues and it’s not yet clear when they will be able to resume.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, UEFA will propose a new structure to get the Champions League and Europa League finished more quickly.

Serie A clubs could lose 700m

Serie A clubs could lose up to €700m if the remainder of the season cannot be concluded, according to La Repubblica.

The league has been suspended in the midst of the Coronavirus with between 12 and 13 games remaining, depending on the team.

At present, the proposal is to restart the season on May 2, and conclude it on June 30.

However no decision can be made until UEFA hold their critical summit on Tuesday, which will decide the fate of Euro 2020 and how best to finish the Champions League and Europa League competitions.
