Inter on to a Werner

With Inter seemingly in the race for Timo Werner’s signature, Richard Hall asks can the Nerazzurri afford not to sign the German hitman?

If Inter want to be classed as long term competitors for the Scudetto, then they must bring in players like Timo Werner. They ought to be favourites for the RB Leipzig forward, ready to trigger his €60m release clause when Liverpool and Juventus won’t. This of course implies he’d be a replacement for Lautaro Martinez, but the Nerazzurri should be making the move regardless of what may happen with the Argentine.

Inter leave Werner to Liverpool

Inter chief Piero Ausilio has left Timo Werner to Liverpool, admits Edinson Cavani ‘isn’t a priority’ and confirms Dries Mertens preferred to stay at Napoli.

Werner announced earlier this month he was targeting a move abroad and it was reported just two days ago that Liverpool had pulled out of the race to sign the RB Leipzig striker.

Juve's Heysel pain 35 years on

As today marks 35 years since the Heysel disaster, Juventus say it ‘continues to evoke in us the same, unchanged feeling: pain’.

The tragic incident occurred on May 29 1985, before the European Cup Final between Juve and Liverpool at Heysel Stadium in Belgium, when 39 football fans - many of them Bianconero - were crushed to death.

“The word Heysel is one of those that we will never ever forget,” wrote the Bianconeri on their official website.

Napoli baulk at Osimhen asking price

Napoli are reportedly the favourites for Victor Osimhen, but Lille’s €50m asking price could prove a problem.

The striker has also been linked with Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea, but this week Footmercato, Telefoot and Sport Mediaset all claimed Napoli had agreed personal terms.

Now le10sport in France also point to the Partenopei leading the race, but the Corriere dello Sport warns Lille risk ruining the deal with their asking price.

Liverpool pull out of Werner race?

Liverpool are reportedly pulling out of the race for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, who has been linked with Inter and Juventus.

The Champions League holders had been the undoubted favourites for his signature, but The Mirror claims this evening that Liverpool are refusing to go above €35m.

There is a release clause in Werner’s contract with the Bundesliga outfit worth €60m and it seems the Reds want to negotiate it down massively.

On this day: Milan fumble in Istanbul

On this day in 2005, Milan botched a 3-0 lead against Liverpool and ended up losing the Champions League Final on penalties.

Carlo Ancelotti recently claimed the Milan team who lined up in Istanbul were superior to those he led to victory in 2003 and 2007.

Nevertheless, today is the 15th anniversary of that match, when the Rossoneri were up 3-0 at half-time yet self-destructed in six minutes, eventually losing the Final on penalties.

Kaka: 'Milan-Liverpool sign from God'

Ricky Kaka looks back 13 years after Milan beat Liverpool in the 2007 Champions League Final. ‘It was a sign from God, not a coincidence.’

The two teams had already clashed in Istanbul in 2005, when the Rossoneri dominated only to fumble a 3-0 lead and eventually lose on penalties, but they met again in Athens.

“It was a sign from God, not a coincidence,” Kaka told the official Milan website.

Multiple Italian sources claim Manchester United are the favourites to sign Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly for €90m, ahead of PSG, Liverpool and Newcastle United.

French papers had already suggested Paris Saint-Germain were pulling out, while Barcelona and Real Madrid are also looking at other targets.

Now La Repubblica and Il Mattino newspapers in Italy also point to Manchester United as the primary candidates should Koulibaly leave the Stadio San Paolo this summer.
