Agger 'considering Fiorentina offer'

Fiorentina have made an offer for Liverpool defender Daniel Agger, according to a FIFA agent, but he is haggling over wages.

“The Viola have put forward a contract proposal to Agger, offering him €1.5m, but he wants €2m per season,” FIFA agent Bernardo Brovarone told Lady Radio in Florence.

“Now we have to wait and see what Liverpool say about it.”

It is not the first time that Agger has been linked with a move this season.

Hodgson 'surprised' at Rafa rumours

Roy Hodgson says it would be “surprising” if Inter boss Rafa Benitez were to make a comeback to Liverpool.

There are numerous rumours around the fate of the Nerazzurri Coach, who looks set to be axed after his ‘back me or sack me' demands.

Some British sources suggest Rafa could even return to Anfield Road, the club he left in the summer.

“It would be surprising. If he were the right man for the job then it would have been wiser not to let him go for six months and then have to bring him back,” said Hodgson.

Aquilani wanted Juve at all costs

Alberto Aquilani has revealed how he wanted to join Juventus at all costs rather than starting again at a smaller club.

The 26-year-old midfielder moved to Turin on loan from Liverpool in the summer and has rebuilt his career after an injury-plagued season on Merseyside.

Speaking to the club's official TV channel, Aquilani said: "I only wanted Juventus. The Bianconeri quickly presented themselves once I made my desire to return to Italy known, getting in touch with Liverpool and Roy Hodgson with the idea of a loan.

Benitez wants Agger reunion

Rafa Benitez is facing an injury crisis at Inter and looks to his old Liverpool protégé Daniel Agger.

The Nerazzurri have lost Walter Samuel for the rest of the season after he underwent surgery for knee ligament damage yesterday.

Reinforcements are needed in the January transfer window and according to The Mirror it will involve a Premier League swoop.

Former Liverpool manager Benitez is thought to be planning a mid-season move for 25-year-old Agger.

Mazzarri fears Anfield hangover

Walter Mazzarri is concerned that the strain of Napoli's Europa League night in Liverpool could damage their performance against Parma.

“I have already hit the reset button after the 90 minutes at Anfield. Now we have to see how the team has reacted,” he said of Thursday's 3-1 defeat.

The Partenopei had taken the lead and dominated the first half, but collapsed to a Steven Gerrard hat-trick.

De Sanctis cries foul

Napoli goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis insists that Steven Gerrard's first goal for Liverpool last night should have been disallowed.

The Premiership side came from behind to collect a precious 3-1 Europa League victory thanks to a late hat-trick from their captain.

"I have recriminations about the first goal," the Italian international said. "His challenge on me wasn't a fair one."

De Laurentiis proud of Napoli

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis insists he is proud of his side in spite of last night's defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.

The Partenopei took the lead, but a Steven Gerrard hat-trick ultimately proved their undoing.

"This team made me proud for 70 minutes," De Laurentiis said.

"It was an emotional evening. We played as equals with Liverpool, a glorious club in a stadium that expresses the maximum in civility and football culture.

"This makes us proud.

Line-ups: Cavani takes on Anfield

Napoli have their full-strength side with Edinson Cavani against Liverpool, while Sampdoria make changes in a crunch match with Metalist.

The Europa League Matchday 4 concludes with the games kicking off at 20.00 UK time.

Anfield Road hosts the big Group K clash between the Partenopei and Liverpool, who drew 0-0 at the San Paolo two weeks ago.

Walter Mazzarri has no real injury concerns, so is able to field a full-strength side with Cavani supported by Ezequiel Lavezzi and Marek Hamsik.

Mazzarri: 'We handed it to Gerrard'

Walter Mazzarri felt the referee was “influenced by the atmosphere” at Anfield, but also confessed Napoli helped Steven Gerrard to a hat-trick.

The Partenopei were leading 1-0 through Ezequiel Lavezzi and largely dominated the first half, but ran out of steam and succumbed to a Gerrard hat-trick in the final 15 minutes.

“I did not like the way the referee dealt with the game in the second half, but we were also naive, such as in the incident for the equaliser,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium after this 3-1 loss.

Cavani to start at Anfield

Napoli Coach Walter Mazzarri plans to welcome Edinson Cavani back into the fold ahead of Thursday's trip to Liverpool in the Europa League.

Mazzarri rested the Uruguay international striker at the weekend and didn't pay for doing so, as Napoli beat Brescia 1-0 in Serie A.

Cavani is Napoli's top scorer this season with nine goals, but there is a fear that he might burn out, especially after having had so little time off following Uruguay's run in the World Cup.
