Andreazzoli: Genoa were unlucky

Genoa boss Aurelio Andreazzoli felt his side were unlucky to lose 3-1 to Cagliari on Friday but rued their inability to take chances.

Genoa looked to have earned a point when Christian Kouame drew them level late on, but they ended up conceding twice straight after.

“I don't know if we lacked malice,” Andreazzoli told Sky Sport Italia after the game.

Line-ups: Cagliari-Genoa

Genoa start with Andrea Favilli over Andrea Pinamonti against a Radja Nainggolan-less Cagliari in Serie A this evening.

Pinamonti failed to score in Genoa’s last two games, so Favilli gets the chance to partner Christian Kouame in attack.

The former Juventus striker was once a highly-rated teenager and helped Italy to third place at the U-20 World Cup in 2017.

However, he turned 22 in May and is out to make up for lost time after injury ruled him out for most of last season.

Probable line-ups: Cagliari-Genoa

Radja Nainggolan remains out for Cagliari as they prepare to host Genoa in Serie A this evening.

Nainggolan missed Cagliari’s 3-1 win at Parma with a calf problem, and the midfielder will not be back in time to face Genoa.

The Sardinians are having a troubled time of late, with Leonardo Pavoletti and Alessio Cragno nursing long-term injuries.

Genoa, on the other hand, have just Stefano Sturaro on their treatment table so the stage is set for the majority of their first team.

Maran: Cagliari aren't racist

Cagliari boss Rolando Maran insists his club’s fans “aren’t racist” as “I didn’t hear any chants aimed at Romelu Lukaku” during their match with Inter.

Cagliari were cleared of racism on Tuesday, despite their supporters clearly making what sounded like monkey noises while Lukaku was celebrating a match-winning penalty before the international break.

Serie A Week 4 referees

The referees for Serie A Week 4 have been announced as Daniele Doveri will officiate the Derby della Madonnina between Milan and Inter.

This is Doveri’s biggest game since the Derby d’Italia between Inter and Juventus in May 2015.

He has overseen 12 wins, three draws and one defeat in Serie A matches involving Milan, as opposed to a record of just four victories in 15 Inter games.

The VAR at San Siro will be Massimiliano Irrati, who was the man in the middle for the first Derby d’Italia of last season.

Gasperini: 'Atalanta deserved victory'

Gian Piero Gasperini appreciated Atalanta’s belief to beat Genoa 2-1. “We did enough to deserve the victory.”

The Orobici thought they’d stalled again when Domenico Criscito’s penalty cancelled out the Luis Muriel opener, but deep into stoppages Duvan Zapata hit a screamer off the underside of the bar.

“It was a hard-fought game, we were up against a very impressive Genoa,” Gasperini told DAZN.
