‘Giovinco doesn’t know what to do’

Sebastian Giovinco’s agent says his client ‘doesn’t know what to do’ to earn an Italy recall.

The 30-year-old has enjoyed a highly productive season on a personal and team level, scoring 20 goals as Toronto FC have reached the Major League Soccer play-off semi-finals.

However, he has consistently been overlooked for Azzurri selection since his move to Canada.

During an interview with TMW, Andrea D’Amico said that although his client still retains hope of a recall, there is not much more he can do to make it happen.

Giovinco gives Toronto play-off lead

Sebastian Giovinco curled in a free-kick, as Toronto FC won the first leg of their MLS play-off with the New York Red Bulls.

The Italian international had 16 goals and six assists from the regular season, and curled in a free-kick to win the match last night.

Toronto had taken the lead through Victor Vazquez, but were pegged back by a Daniel Royer goal on the stroke of half-time.

The second leg will be played in Canada on November 5, with the winner of the tie going through to face New York City FC or Columbus Crew in the Eastern Conference final.

Giovinco: ‘I want Italy call’

Toronto FC forward Sebastian Giovinco doesn’t understand why Italy won’t call him, but says the Azzurri is his “greatest aspiration”.

The former Juventus man hasn’t been capped by his country October 2015, ostensibly because he’s playing in Major League Soccer, which is seen as weaker than European football.

“It’s true that the tactics are easier to play against here, and the attackers get more chances to score,” Giovinco admitted, speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport.

'Italy need Criscito and Giovinco'

“It is incredible that players like Domenico Criscito and Sebastian Giovinco are left out of the Italy squad,” said agent Andrea D’Amico.

The Azzurri are going into the World Cup play-offs next month after finishing second behind Spain in their group.

“We all hope Italy can reach the tournament in Russia, as every time there has been controversy or problems, it brought the best out of us,” he told Tuttomercatoweb.
