Carpi locked out of training

Carpi’s players found themselves locked out of Stadio Alberto Braglia when reporting for training this afternoon.

The Biancorossi players turned up expecting to take part in an afternoon session, but found the gates locked, with MaiDireCalcio reporting that Modena President Antonio Caliendo was behind the decision.

Carpi are sharing the stadium with the Canarini this season, as their own Stadio Sandro Cabassi is not suitable for Serie A football.

Frosinone stay, Carpi to Modena

The home stadiums for all 20 Serie A clubs have been confirmed, as Carpi go to Modena and Frosinone stay at the Matusa.

There were some concerns over the host venues for top flight newcomers Carpi and Frosinone, as their stadiums are very small.

Carpi have indeed been forced out of the Cabassi and will play their home ties at the Stadio Braglia in Modena.

Crespo: 'I learned from Coaches'

New Modena Coach Hernan Crespo said he learned from Carlo Ancelotti, Jose Mourinho and Marcelo Bielsa.

This is his first senior role as a tactician after a year in charge of the Parma Primavera youth team, an experience blighted by the club’s bankruptcy.

“Despite the club going under, we still reached the play-offs,” noted Crespo.

Now the former Lazio, Inter, Milan and Chelsea striker takes over at Serie B outfit Modena.

Crespo new Coach of Modena

Hernan Crespo has been appointed the new Coach of Serie B side Modena.

The club announced the deal this afternoon, signing a one-year contract with an option for another two years.

This is his first major management job, having been the Coach of the Parma Primavera youth team in 2014-15.

He was a free agent following the bankruptcy of Parma.

Crespo turns 40 on Sunday and retired from his playing career in 2012 after shining for the lines of River Plate, Parma, Lazio, Inter, Milan and Chelsea.

Serie B: Entella relegated

Virtus Entella drop back into Lega Pro after losing the Serie B relegation play-out to Modena.

The first leg had ended 2-2 in Entella and the return was a 1-1 result at the Stadio Braglia.

Because the play-outs are treated like a mini-league, both teams earned two points and had an equal goal difference.

Therefore the side that went through was Modena, having finished higher up the table during the regular season.

Pablo Granoche converted a penalty, which was wiped out by Andrea Mazzarani.

Serie B: Modena play-out comeback

Modena came back from 2-0 down for a 2-2 draw at Virtus Entella in the first leg of the Serie B relegation play-out.

The loser of this two-legged tie will go down into Lega Pro along with Brescia, Cittadella and Varese.

Entella almost took the lead straight away, but a Cesar header was cleared off the line by Pablo Granoche.

Pedro Ferreira did eventually put the hosts in front after 25 minutes, firing in a Sforzini knock-down.

They doubled their advantage with Staiti getting between centre-backs to nod home a Mazzarani cross.

Serie B: Modena recall Novellino

Serie B side Modena have recalled Coach Walter Novellino just three months after he was fired.

The Canarini wielded the axe on Mauro Melotti following Saturday’s home defeat to Ternana, their third consecutive loss.

There is only one game left in the regular Serie B season and Modena are desperate to avoid relegation into Lega Pro.

Novellino had been sacked in February, but is still under contract until June 2017.

Serie B: Varese and Modena axes

There are two Serie B dismissals, as Modena axed Walter Novellino and Varese fired Stefano Bettinelli.

This weekend two clubs pulled the plug on their tacticians.

As expected, Modena have now officially sacked Novellino and handed the reins to co-Coaches Mauro Melotti and Simone Pavan until the end of the season.

Varese followed suit and sent Bettinelli out the door after their defeat to Brescia saw them drop to joint last place.
