Serie A set for commissionership

Serie A will be run by a commissioner until March after not enough club Presidents voted for fresh elections to take place.

Miccichè resigned as President of Lega Serie A last month and an assembly had been called to find a new chief.

However, reports this morning claim the target of 14 votes was not reached by top-flight patrons after two rounds of ballots.

Therefore, Mario Cicala will be active commissioner from tomorrow and stay in the role until March 10, 2020.

Ancelotti places Napoli in ritiro

Napoli coach Carlo Ancelotti has officially placed his team ‘in ritiro’ to prepare for their match against Udinese this weekend.

Last month, the Partenopei coach fought his players’ corner when they were put in a training retreat by President Aurelio De Laurentiis.

However, the club has now confirmed that Ancelotti himself has decided to keep the players together for four days.

Gasp: 'Only top two decided'

Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini claims the top two are already decided in Serie A but expects a "completely open" fight for top four.

Atalanta have bounced back form a 3-1 loss to Juventus with successive victories over Dinamo Zagreb and Brescia.

The Dea are currently sixth in Serie A, five points behind third-placed Lazio. Now, Gasperini expects the fight for Champions League to go on until the end of the season.

Zapata back for Shakhtar?

Duvan Zapata will reportedly make his comeback for Atalanta in their crunch Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk next week.

Zapata has been out of action since suffering a thigh injury in October while on international duty with Colombia.

However, the Gazzetta dello Sport claims he has now returned from a six-day programme in Seville with Dr. Carlos Moreno Pedrosa and will resume training tomorrow.

Giuntoli rues Napoli bad luck

Cristiano Giuntoli insists the environment at Napoli “has never been a problem”, instead putting their poor form down to “injuries and questionable choices”.

Napoli continued their winless run with a 2-1 home defeat to Bologna on Sunday, but Giuntoli is confident they will soon start picking up “the points we deserve”.

“The environment has never been a problem,” the sporting director told Sky Sport Italia. “We need to turn the trend in the League, get the points we deserve and continue our growth.”

Allan has two fractured ribs

Liverani braced for Viola backlash

Lecce coach Fabio Liverani says is braced for a Fiorentina backlash tomorrow after consecutive defeats for the Viola.

Fiorentina lost to Verona and Cagliari in their last two Serie A games, so Liverani is expecting to face a team who are “angry”, looking to atone for their poor form.
