Costacurta: 'Reserve team reform possible'

FIGC co-Commissioner Alessandro Costacurta is confident they’ll be able to introduce Reserve Teams. “Many have tried and failed.”

The Italian Football Federation and Lega Serie A were placed under Commissioners after the failure to elect new Presidents.

Many reforms have already been pushed through, including the introduction of ‘Boxing Day’ Serie A fixtures and the shortening of the transfer sessions so as not to overlap with fixtures.

Orsolini: My goal for Gasperini

Italy Under-21 winger Riccardo Orsolini  dedicated his late winner against Russia to Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini. “Let’s hope he plays me more now!”

Orsolini scored deep in stoppage time as Italy U21s came back from 2-1 down to beat Russia 3-2 on Tuesday, and the Juventus loanee hoped to have caught the eye of Gasperini after still no starts for Atalanta.

“Italy? I’m very sorry, especially to the fans, even if we were more focused on our own match,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

Di Biagio ‘fairly happy’ with win

Luigi Di Biagio said he was ‘fairly happy’ with Italy Under-21s’ 4-0 victory over Morocco on Tuesday.

Italy won their third straight game by a big scoreline, but while Di Biagio sensed an ‘improvement’ from his young guns, he refused to get too carried away by their strong run of form.

“We’ve improved and it’s inevitable when you work for 8-9 days together,” he said after the game.

“I’m fairly happy. Morocco? Like I said the other day, every match is there to be won.

Luigi Di Biagio hailed debutant Fabio Depaoli for a ‘great’ performance during Italy Under-21s’ 6-2 victory over Hungary on Thursday.

“I’m sorry about the two goals we conceded because we also need to grow in this aspect,” the Coach said after the game.

U21: Italy demolish Hungary

Italy Under-21s scored five goals in the first half en route to thrashing Hungary 6-2 on Thursday.

Italy flew out the traps through Milan striker Patrick Cutrone, who netted twice in seven minutes to get the ball rolling.

It was then Federico Chiesa’s turn to grab a brace, sandwiched by a Fabio De Paoli effort, to slay the hosts with still a minute until half-time.

Luigi Di Biagio took Cutrone and Chiesa off for the second period, and the incoming Riccardo Orsolini was similarly prolific, rounding off the victory with 10 minutes to spare.
