Commisso: 'Fiorentina fans are hungry'

Rocco Commisso denied rumours Fiorentina could be floated on the stock exchange and urged Vincenzo Montella to reward “hungry” fans.

The Italian-American billionaire held a live interview with Sky Sport Italia standing in Times Square in New York City, with a large video screen appearing behind them: ‘New York welcomes ACF Fiorentina.’

“Never mind how much it cost, let me take care of money! This is my town and I wanted my co-citizens to welcome Fiorentina.”

OFFICIAL: Fiorentina keep Montella

Fiorentina have confirmed that Vincenzo Montella will remain their Coach next season.

Montella only returned to Fiorentina in April, but his position already seemed to be at risk after he failed to win any of his eight games, while the Della Valle family - who brought him back - sold the club to Rocco Commisso.

However, the former Milan boss met Commisso on Friday and will now stay on.

“I met Vincenzo this afternoon and he made an excellent impression on me,” the Italo-American told the Viola’s official website.

Montella confirmed in New York?

Fiorentina are reportedly planning to confirm Vincenzo Montella as their Coach with a big display in Times Square.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Montella is in New York to meet new Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso.

The broadcaster explains the summit will be for the pair to get to know each other as Commisso has already decided to keep the former Milan boss.

That would then be followed by images of the 44-year-old’s face being shown on the giant screens of Times Square in Manhattan.

Montella confirmed at Fiorentina

Vincenzo Montella is confirmed as the Fiorentina Coach after a meeting with new President Rocco Commisso.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Sportitalia, FirenzeViola and multiple sources, today’s encounter in New York went well and the club will not seek a replacement.

Montella only took the job on April 10 when Stefano Pioli resigned in protest at former patrons Diego and Andrea Della Valle.

He failed to win a single game, managing only two draws and six defeats between Serie A and the Coppa Italia.

Commisso could keep Montella

New Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso is reportedly leaning towards keeping Coach Vincenzo Montella, but will make a decision next week.

The tactician was brought in by the Della Valle brothers to replace Stefano Pioli in April, but failed to win a single game after two draws and six defeats.

Nonetheless, Tuttosport and the Corriere dello Sport are confident Commisso wants to keep Montella to start the new season.

New Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso admits he tried to buy the club three years ago, but is keeping Federico Chiesa and waiting to speak with Vincenzo Montella.

The Italian-American purchased the Viola from the Della Valle brothers for approximately €170m.

“I was moved at the Stadio Franchi, yes,” Commisso told Sky Sport Italia after he was greeted by around 8,000 fans in the arena.

Milan dragged into modernity

Rather than downsizing of ambitions, fans should see the Ivan Gazidis revamp as dragging Milan into becoming a modern football club, writes Richard Hall.

A new era is emerging for the Rossoneri and it doesn’t include Gennaro Gattuso or Leonardo. Milan CEO Ivan Gazidis has moved on behalf of Elliott Management to make sure the club operate with a new philosophy, even if it is based out of necessity. There will be no more big transfer fees, there will be a concerted effort to balance the books and there will be a focus on youth. Whilst this might be an unfortunate situation for the red and black half of the city, it could just perhaps be the making of them.

Gattuso-Giampaolo job swap?

Fiorentina and Sampdoria are mentioned as possible destinations once Gennaro Gattuso leaves Milan, possibly in a job swap with Marco Giampaolo.

Sky Sport Italia and others report this evening that Gattuso and CEO Ivan Gazidis decided to part company in a meeting.

It will be a termination by mutual consent, with the Coach giving up 90 per cent of the salary he’d still be owed for a contract to June 2021.

Montella: Fiorentina not happy

Fiorentina Coach Vincenzo Montella made it clear his side were ‘not happy’, even though they managed to avoid relegation.

The Viola played out a 0-0 draw with Genoa to ensure both teams stayed in Serie A as Empoli’s 2-1 defeat to Inter sent down the Tuscans.

“We’re not happy, even though we avoided relegation,” Montella told Sky Sport Italia.

“It was a tense game. We’ve had a very strange season, thankfully it’s over now. We risked everything and it could’ve gone a lot worse.
