Allegri: ‘Luck needed in CL’

Juventus Coach Massimiliano Allegri points out “you also need a bit of luck” to win the Champions League.

The Bianconeri have been to the final twice under the Tuscan tactician, but lost to Barcelona in 2015 and Real Madrid in 2017.

“In the last 11 years, Real have won four times, Barça have won four times and then there’s one each for Inter, Bayern Munich and Chelsea,” Allegri pointed out in an interview with Sky.

Juventus close to Golovin

Juventus are close to a deal with CSKA Moscow for Aleksandr Golovin, according to reports.

The 22-year-old will play for Russia at the World Cup, which starts tomorrow with the host nation taking on Saudi Arabia.

The Bianconeri have been increasingly linked with a move for the midfielder, and are believed to have agreed terms with him.

Now SportMediaset is reporting that a deal is also close with CSKA, as Juve are keen to do a deal before the tournament where Golovin’s price could rise.

De Vrij: ‘Won’t watch World Cup’

Stefan de Vrij reveals he won’t be watching much of the World Cup this summer as he’ll be “getting ready for a new adventure with Inter”.

The Lazio defender is out of contract on June 30, and has already signed for the Nerazzurri for next season.

The Netherlands aren’t at this summer’s tournament, but the centre-back won’t be watching on the sofa.

“I’ll watch the most important matches but I don’t know if I’ll follow them all,” De Vrij shrugged, speaking to AD.

Mancini: ‘Balotelli can be leader’

Italy CT Roberto Mancini believes Mario Balotelli can be a leader for the national team and “he’s not the only one”.

The striker was recalled by Mancio for his first three matches in charge of the Azzurri, and is behind only Mattia De Sciglio and Leo Bonucci for the captaincy.

“I feel affection for him, of course,” Mancini told GQ when asked about his protégé.

FIFA propose ‘mini World Cup’?

It’s reported that FIFA wants to stage a ‘mini World Cup’ of eight teams every two years, in addition to the expanded tournament.

Starting in 2026, the World Cup will expand from 32 teams to 48, a move which has drawn criticism from some quarters.

Now news agency Reuters reports that it has seen a letter from FIFA President Gianni Infantino suggesting a new tournament which would take place every October and/or November of every odd year, starting from 2021.

Nainggolan: ‘CL the dream’

Rocchi to ref at World Cup

Italy’s Gianluca Rocchi has been selected as one of the referees for the World Cup, with two Italian assistants also going.

The Azzurri won’t be in Russia this summer, with the national team having been knocked out by Sweden in the qualification play-off.

Today FIFA has been announced the referees for the tournament, and Rocchi will be one of the officials, along with assistants Elenito Di Liberatore and Mauro Tonolini.

Bernardeschi reveals ‘two dreams’

Juventus winger Federico Bernardeschi has revealed his two dreams in football – winning the Champions League and World Cup.

Bernardeschi is still in with a chance of making his first dream happen, although Juve conceded two away goals in their last-16 tie with Tottenham Hotspur, while the winger must wait until at least 2022 to possibly lift the World Cup.

“I have two dreams: winning the Champions League and World Cup,” he said at an event for the Bianconeri’s junior members.
