Buffon, Eto'o, Zanetti up for award

Gigi Buffon, Samuel Eto'o and Javier Zanetti are among the candidates for the 2011 Golden Foot award.

The winner of the public vote will receive a place on the Champions Promenade, a football version of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, in Monte Carlo.

The jury of 58 sports journalists from around the world put together the list of 10 contenders for the award marking an historic career.

There are three Serie A figures in the list: Juventus goalkeeper Buffon, Inter captain Zanetti and his teammate Eto'o.

Eto'o is Inter's Messi

Samuel Eto'o is as important to Inter as Lionel Messi is to Barcelona, says Nerazzurri chief Massimo Moratti.

Speaking to Inter Channel, the oil baron was asked for his opinion on who made the biggest impact at his club this season.

"That's a difficult question, but I don't think any of the others will get offended if I say Samuel Eto'o," Moratti noted.

"He's played at such a high level all year.

Agent rules out Eto'o switch

Samuel Eto'o has no intention of leaving Italian giants Inter, the player's representative has underlined.

"Samuel is happy to stay at Inter," Claudio Vigorelli told TMW. "He wants to continue winning with the Nerazzurri shirt.

"Samuel Eto'o has no intention of going anywhere."

The Cameroon international's future was placed into some doubt after he suffered racist abuse while in Milan last week.

Eto'o: 'Football is joy'

Samuel Eto'o thanked “both sets of fans for a splendid night. Inter and Palermo showed that football is joy. I'm staying here.”

The striker bagged a clinical brace in the 3-1 Coppa Italia Final victory at the Stadio Olimpico, which was a sea of pink with a reported 50,000 travelling Sicilian fans.

“Football is joy and I want to thank both sets of fans for a splendid night,” the Cameroon striker told RAI.

Eto'o committed to Inter

Samuel Eto'o has dismissed media speculation that he is thinking about leaving Inter this summer.

Reports on Friday had claimed that the striker would consider his future after suffering racist abuse in the city this week.

After reading the stories, the player himself has released a statement to the Nerazzurri faithful on the club's website.

"This morning I was very surprised, as I expect you were, to read the reports in some of the newspapers, in particular La Gazzetta dello Sport," the note stated.

Leonardo hails Eto'o century

Leonardo hailed Samuel Eto'o as “one of the greatest players in the world” ahead of his 100th appearance for Inter tomorrow.

When the Cameroon international steps on to the field against Catania, he will mark his century in a Nerazzurri jersey, having scored 51 goals.

Eto'o wants Inter extension

Samuel Eto'o is hoping to sign a contract extension at Internazionale, the Corriere dello Sport reports.

Despite being tied to the club until June 2014, it is being claimed that the Cameroon international wants to commit even more of his future to the San Siro giants.

Eto'o joined Inter in the summer of 2009 after he was involved in the deal which saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic move to Barcelona.

The forward, born in March 1981, is understood to be Inter's highest earner given that he nets a reported salary of around €8m a season.

Eto'o out of Coppa semi

Samuel Eto'o has been left out of the Inter squad for their Coppa Italia semi-final because of injury.

The Cameroon international, arguably the Nerazzurri's best player this term, hasn't been named in the party for Tuesday's Coppa Italia tie at Roma.

The former Barcelona player picked up an ankle problem in the shock 2-0 loss at Parma over the weekend which has ruled him out of contention.

Thankfully for Beneamata boss Leonardo, Diego Milito is nearing full fitness after his recent struggles with injury.

Matthaus: Eto'o can win derby

Inter Scudetto winner Lothar Matthaus thinks Samuel Eto'o could make the difference in this weekend's Milan derby.
