Biglia: ‘Milan is a dream’

Lucas Biglia says it’s “a dream” to be at Milan, and discusses his Fernando Redondo inspiration.

The midfielder joined the Rossoneri from Lazio earlier this month, and spoke to the club’s official television channel about icons from the past.

“I think of this team’s history, great champions,” Biglia explained to Milan TV.

“It’s a dream to be here.

“My idol has always been Redondo, he played for great teams, including Milan. I watched him a lot, as I watched [Andrea] Pirlo and Xavi.

Bentancur to ‘imitate’ Pogba, but…

Rodrigo Bentancur says “I hope to imitate Paul Pogba” at Juventus but that “Steven Gerrard and Andrea Pirlo are my points of reference”.

Bentancur is preparing for his first season with Juve after being confirmed to occupy a non-EU spot in their squad, and the Uruguayan starlet has big ambitions for his spell with the Bianconeri.

“I’m ready for Juventus, even if I’m only 20 years old,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

On This Day: Germany 0-2 Italy

On this day in 2006, Italy beat Germany 2-0 in the World Cup semi-final, in one of the best matches in modern times.

The Azzurri had beaten Australia and Ukraine in the knockout stages, but faced a daunting task in Dortmund against the hosts.

Marcello Lippi’s men had the first chance of the game, but Jens Lehmann smothered the ball at Simone Perrotta’s feet after a clever pass from Francesco Totti.

Bernd Schneider should have put Die Mannschaft ahead, but he fired over Gianluigi Buffon’s crossbar.

‘Valero can be Inter’s Pirlo’

Inter legend Beppe Bergomi believes Borja Valero is “the ideal player” for the Nerazzurri to rebuild around and can be their Andrea Pirlo.

Valero is understood to be on the verge of becoming Luciano Spalletti’s first Inter signing, and Bergomi felt the Fiorentina midfielder had what it took to be what Pirlo was for Juve under Antonio Conte.

“He should be the first midfield purchase for Luciano Spalletti’s new Inter,” the iconic defender told Gazzetta dello Sport.

Juvevolution in progress

Unlike previous traumatic summers, Adam Digby is confident Juventus will be about evolution, not revolution.

Before the Juventus players had even set foot on the tarmac at Turin’s Caselle airport, talk had already turned to what the club would do on the transfer market this summer. While it is saddening to think that the historic accomplishments of Max Allegri’s men became a footnote to their defeat in the Champions League Final, that is the harsh reality the Bianconeri must face over the next few months.

Pirlo: 'Expect Juve victory'

Andrea Pirlo “expected nothing other than” Juventus winning the Champions League against Real Madrid and helping Gigi Buffon get the Ballon d’Or.

His final match in a Bianconeri jersey was the 3-1 Final defeat to Barcelona in 2015, followed by his transfer to New York City FC.

“What to say? We’re here: Juve-Real, the Champions League Final,” wrote Pirlo in La Stampa newspaper.

Pirlo hopes for competitive Serie A

Andrea Pirlo hopes Serie A can become more competitive “with four or five teams fighting for the Scudetto”.

Juventus have won the title for the past six seasons in a row, an Italian record, and their former midfielder hopes they can be challenged in the coming years.

“For now Juve have proven that they’re ahead,” Pirlo told Corriere della Sera.

“The hope though is that we can go back to having more spectacle, with four or five teams fighting for the Scudetto.
