Chiellini: Ronaldo like Pirlo

Giorgio Chiellini believes Cristiano Ronaldo has made a similar impact on Juventus to Andrea Pirlo.

Pirlo’s arrival in 2011 coincided with the start of Juve’s dominance in Serie A, and Chiellini claimed Ronaldo was taking the playmaker’s work to the next level.

“I think Cristiano Ronaldo has noticed what an important team he has behind him, particularly at Valencia,” the defender said from Monday’s Gran Gala’ del Calcio ceremony.

Totti, Pirlo to be given prizes

Francesco Totti and Andrea Pirlo will be given special awards at the Gran Galà del Calcio next week.

The award ceremony is essentially an Oscars for Italian football, with the nominees for 2018 announced on November 20.

Today it has been confirmed that Roma legend Totti and former Milan and Juventus hero Andrea Pirlo will be given awards for their career achievements.

Tonali could get Italy call

Brescia youngster Sandro Tonali could be given his first Italy call-up for the upcoming international break, according to reports.

The midfielder has been described as the new Andrea Pirlo, and is attracting interest from the likes of Inter, Milan, Juventus and Napoli.

The 18-year-old was part of the Under-19 squad which reached the final of the European Championships in the summer, but he’s never been involved with the senior squad.

Pogba: ‘Juventus is my home’

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is excited to be returning to face Juventus on Wednesday - “Turin is my home”.

The Frenchman left the Bianconeri to return to Old Trafford in 2016, but credits the Bianconeri with his maturation as a player.

“I was expecting it,” Pogba told RMC Sport when asked about the draw.

“It was crazy, I spoke to my brother in the summer and I said: ‘imagine if we’re in the same group as Juve?’.

Serie A free kicks in 15-year low

Only three free kicks have been scored in Serie A this season, but Andrea Pirlo insists the 15-year low is only ‘a bad run’.

Despite the League being littered with set-piece specialists, only Nicolo Barella, Cristiano Biraghi and Aleksandar Kolarov have found the target in the opening 10 weeks of 2018-19.

Not since 2003 have there been so few free kicks scored, and Pirlo was quizzed on why the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lorenzo Insigne and Hakan Calhanoglu had yet to get off the mark.

Andrea Pirlo defends Milan Coach Gennaro Gattuso, his former teammate - “what do they want from Rino, to win every game?”

Pirlo: 'Coaching intrigues me'

Andrea Pirlo chose his Champions League favourites, including Juventus, and revealed he is considering a future as a Coach.

The former midfield maestro retired after spell at NYCFC in MLS, having previously played for Brescia, Inter, Reggina, Milan and Juventus.

“I took the course over the summer, so would only be missing the Masters’ to get my certificate. It’s an idea that does intrigue me,” Pirlo told Sky Sport Italia.

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes Paul Pogba is struggling as “he's got nobody to control him like he had at Juventus”.

Inter bid €25m for Tonali?

Inter are reportedly ready to meet Brescia’s €25m asking price for teenage midfielder Sandro Tonali, the ‘New Andrea Pirlo.’

The 18-year-old has attracted interest from all over Europe due to his performances for Brescia in Serie B and Italy at youth level.

His movements, tactical positioning and even gait all remind Calcio lovers of a young Pirlo, who also came up through the Brescia academy.
