Fabbricini: 'Mancini after May 14'

FIGC Commissioner Roberto Fabbricini confirmed talks with Andrea Pirlo and Massimo Ambrosini, while Roberto Mancini will discuss the Italy job after May 14.

“We evaluated a future collaboration with Pirlo and Ambrosini, that is possible for the Under-21s or the Nazionale. They said they are available and that’s good to know we can be helped by two champions,” Fabbricini told Rai Sport.

After Carlo Ancelotti, it now seems likely Zenit St Petersburg boss Mancini will be appointed as the new Italy CT.

Pirlo: ‘Hope Gattuso gets Coppa’

Former Milan and Juventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo expects “a balanced match” in the Coppa Italia final, but wants to see his friend Rino Gattuso lift the trophy.

The ex Italian international played for both teams, and is an official ambassador for tonight’s showdown at the Stadio Olimpico.

“I expect a balanced match,” Pirlo told Milan TV.

“A final never have favourites, even more so when you play at the end of the season. I hope it’s a good match.

Pirlo: ‘I’d work with Italy’

Andrea Pirlo discusses taking a role within the Italy setup - “it would be nice to work with the national team”.

The former midfielder retired at the end of the 2017 MLS season, and hasn’t yet decided what to do in his post-playing career.

Having won 116 caps for the Azzurri, a role with the national team would be a logical next step, and the former Milan and Juventus man is open to that.

“I’ll speak with [FIGC sub-commissioner Alessandro] Costacurta because he’s a friend,” Pirlo told RMC Sport.

Albertini: ‘Pirlo top-five of all time’

Demetrio Albertini believes Andrea Pirlo is “one of the five best-ever players in Italian football”.

The former Milan, Inter and Juventus midfielder received the Facchetti Award today, and his former Rossoneri teammate was full of praise for the recently retired man.

“It’s a shame we didn’t get to play much together,” Albertini told Tuttomercatoweb.

“I consider him to be one of the five best-ever players in Italian football. For years he was the best in the world.

Galliani: ‘When I signed Pirlo…’

Former Milan CEO Adriano Galliani reflects on signing Andrea Pirlo, noting that he signed Filippo Inzaghi on the same day.

Pirlo received the Facchetti Award this afternoon, and a host of former teammates and directors paid tribute to him.

Galliani signed the midfielder from Inter in 2001, as part of a complex series of transfers between the city rivals.

Pirlo, Cristian Brocchi and Matteo Bogani joined the Rossoneri, while Dražen Brnčić, Guly and Paolo Ginestra went the other way, essentially creating a break-even situation for both clubs.

Pirlo: ‘I wanted to retire’

Andrea Pirlo confirms “I really thought about quitting” after Milan’s Champions League final defeat to Liverpool in 2005.

The Rossoneri were 3-0 up at half-time in Istanbul, but allowed the English side to draw level and then lost on penalties.

The former midfielder said in his autobiography that the defeat made him want to retire from football, and that wasn’t hyperbole.

“The disappointment remains, but you can’t go back,” Pirlo told reporters as he received the Facchetti Prize today.

Pirlo reveals tribute match line-ups

The full list of players for Andrea Pirlo’s farewell match has been revealed, including Ronaldo, Frank Lampard, Alessandro Del Piero and Clarence Seedorf.

The former midfielder retired at the end of the 2017 MLS season, but will play in a farewell match at San Siro on May 21.

Some names had already been revealed, but now Il Maestro has announced the full star-studded line-up.

Most of the 2006 World Cup winning squad will be there, as well as legends like Ronaldo, Andriy Shevchenko, Cafu and Demetrio Albertini.

Pirlo names testimonial stars

Andrea Pirlo named just some of the stars for his testimonial, including Francesco Totti, Gigi Buffon, Fabio Cannavaro, Alessandro Del Piero, Marcos Cafu, Paolo Maldini, Alessandro Nesta, Manuel Rui Costa and Frank Lampard.

The midfielder will say goodbye to his football career in La Notte del Maestro at San Siro on May 21.

Ancelotti wants Pirlo in Italy staff

Carlo Ancelotti has asked to both his son and Andrea Pirlo in his staff if he takes over the Italy job, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Coach had a meeting with the FIGC representatives this week in Rome and will give them a firm reply at the end of this month.

The latest reports suggest that Ancelotti laid down some conditions for taking the role and that includes having his son Davide – who already caused some waves at Bayern Munich – and former Italy hero Pirlo in his coaching staff.
