Sousa: 'Fiorentina regrets'

Paulo Sousa was left with “regrets” after Fiorentina’s 1-1 draw at Sassuolo and urged patience for Giuseppe Rossi.

Borja Valero had opened the scoring after five minutes, but it was cancelled out by a Sergio Floccari header.

“I am disappointed, as we paid the price for using up so much energy in the Europa League on Thursday and Sassuolo were in better shape for the second half,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

Pasqual: ‘Fiorentina more cynical’

Manuel Pasqual says Paulo Sousa has made Fiorentina “more cynical” compared to Vincenzo Montella.

The Viola will go top of Serie A, at least temporarily, if they beat Sassuolo this evening, and the defender admits they’re more hard-nosed than in previous campaigns.

“We’re more cynical,” Pasqual explained to French website Sofoot.

“In my first few years, we had deficiencies which we made up for with enthusiasm and desire to be together.

Tinkering with Fiorentina

Following 2-2 draws against Empoli and Basel, George Rinaldi believes Paulo Sousa is chopping and changing too much.

Everything seemed to be going so swimmingly on Thursday evening. Federico Bernardeschi had given Fiorentina an early lead prior to Facundo Roncaglia's dismissal. The Italian netted again, and the Italians were heading to top spot in the Group. Cue the exact opposite of Sunday's events against Empoli, with Basel fighting back against their former Coach to gain a valuable point.

Sousa: 'Must control emotions'

Paulo Sousa was “proud” of his 10-man Fiorentina earning a 2-2 draw away to Basel, but Facundo Roncaglia “has to control his emotions.”

The Viola were 2-0 up in Switzerland despite an early Roncaglia straight red card for elbowing Breel Embolo, but tired as time went on and were pegged back 2-2.

“I applauded my players because I am proud of this team, who did well to control many situations that didn’t go our way,” Sousa told Sky Sport Italia.

Basel Coach Urs Fischer believes Fiorentina are “under pressure” ahead of their Europa League meeting.

The Viola are currently three points behind the Swiss side in Group I, but Lech Poznan or Belenenses could overtake Paulo Sousa’s side if they lose tomorrow.

‘Fiorentina still in Scudetto race’

Cesare Prandelli feels his old side Fiorentina are still in the Scudetto race, despite a draw with Empoli.

The Viola were top of Serie A going into the weekend’s fixtures, but found themselves down 2-0 to their Tuscan rivals at half-time.

Paulo Sousa’s men eventually rescued a point, but relinquished the League leadership to Inter, who thrashed Frosinone 4-0.

“It won’t be a two-horse race between Inter and Napoli,” Prandelli told Il Mattino.
