Suarez could leave Fiorentina

A lack of playing time could see Mario Suarez considering a Fiorentina exit in January.

The midfielder joined the Viola this summer from Atletico Madrid, but has so far made just two Serie A starts for his new side.

Suarez is expected to play from the start in tomorrow’s Europa League encounter with Lech Poznan, but La Nazione reports that the 28-year-old wants to feature more in the League.

If Paulo Sousa can’t find a place for Suarez in his team, the newspaper reports, the midfielder could seek an exit from the club in January.

Leaders Fiorentina need Iličić

Fiorentina remain top of Serie A, but defeat to Napoli showed the impact of too much tinkering, writes Chloe Beresford.

The clash between top of the league Fiorentina and an in-form Napoli side at San Paulo was arguably the most hotly anticipated match in Serie A last weekend. Before the international break, the Viola had five straight league wins under their belt, conceding only four goals in the process. The partnership between Nikola Kalinić and Josip Iličić had clicked into place, the pair looking lethal in attack with seven league goals between them.

Valero: ‘Sousa has more character’

Fiorentina midfielder Borja Valero says Coach Paulo Sousa “has much more character” than Vincenzo Montella.

The Viola fired Montella this summer, replacing him with the former Juventus midfielder, who has taken them to the top of Serie A.

“We’re more practical now,” Valero explained, speaking to El Pais.

“Maybe on a couple of occasions we’ve played worse than in recent years, but we’re more compact in defence, so our opponents have often had problems creating chances and scoring against us.
