Sousa: ‘Rossi starts against Genoa’

Fiorentina Coach Paulo Sousa says ‘whoever comes to the Artemio Franchi will see Giuseppe Rossi start’ ahead of their Serie A clash with Genoa.

The 28-year-old has finally returned from a long-term knee injury that kept him sidelined for the entirety of the 2014-15 season.

Sousa confirmed at today’s Press conference that the Italy international will play from the start against Genoa this weekend.

"The most important news about Giuseppe is that he is well and finding continuity,” Sousa said.

Gilberto: ‘Fiorentina a big step’

New Fiorentina signing Gilberto describes the move as ‘a big step in my career’ as he’s officially presented.

The right-back has joined from Botafogo in a deal believed to be worth around €1m, and spoke to fans and media this afternoon.

“It’s a big step in my career,” the 22-year-old admitted.

“I hope to do very well in Florence, and in this League. I saw the game against Barcelona, then I played against Chelsea.

Astori: ‘Fiorentina not a stepping stone’

New Fiorentina signing Davide Astori assures he doesn’t see the club as a ‘stepping stone’, but as a point of arrival.

The centre-back has joined the Viola from Cagliari, after spending last season on loan at Roma and seeing a proposed move to Napoli fall through.

“Florence isn’t a stepping stone for me, but a point of arrival,” Astori said at his presentation Press conference.

“I want to establish myself in Italy and Europe. There’s pressure everywhere, the fans are very demanding.

‘Roncaglia has Marseille agreement’

Fiorentina defender Facundo Roncaglia has agreed a deal with Marseille, the player’s agent reveals.

The 28-year-old spent last season on loan at Genoa, and appears to be surplus to the Viola’s requirements.

“Facundo Roncaglia and Marseille have reached a point of agreement,” Claudio Curti told Radio Blu.

“The French club has offered him a four-year deal. We’d only stay if the Viola offered something similar.

Sousa blocks Savic exit

Fiorentina Coach Paulo Sousa has reportedly blocked Stefan Savic’s move to Atletico Madrid, while bidding for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Montenegro international Savic has been the subject of intense transfer talk over the summer, but Gazzetta dello Sport has reported that Sousa has blocked any move to Atletico because he regards the 24-year-old as a fundamental part of the squad.

Agent: ‘No Rossi renewal talks’

Giuseppe Rossi’s agent discusses the striker’s comeback from injury, but reveals they haven’t held contract talks with Fiorentina.

The Italian international missed the whole of last season with the latest in a series of knee injuries which have blighted his career.

The former Manchester United man’s contract expires at the end of the coming season, but his representative is relaxed about the situation.

“We haven’t talked about the contract,” Andrea Pastorello told FirenzeViola.

Fiorentina in for Xhaka?

Fiorentina are reportedly close to a transfer for Basel defender Taulant Xhaka, having agreed a deal with the player.

The Viola have so far been quiet on the transfer market, with sporting director Daniele preaching ‘calm and tranquility’.

Gazzetta dello Sport reports that new Coach Paulo Sousa has personally requested Xhaka, having worked with the 24-year-old in Switzerland last season.

The newspaper believes a deal has been agreed with the player and his entourage, but a transfer fee has yet to be agreed with his club.

Sousa to tempt Salah?

New Fiorentina Coach Paulo Sousa will reportedly attempt to convince Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah to extend his Viola loan today. 

Salah joined Fiorentina on loan in January on a two-year loan deal but has the option to reject a return to Florence in favour of staying at parent club Chelsea.

Fiorentina: 'New Coach by weekend'

Fiorentina will announce their new Coach by the weekend, said DG Andrea Rogg. “Paulo Sousa is one of the options.”

Vincenzo Montella was sacked this week after repeatedly refusing to commit his future to the club, also criticising the ‘project’ and budget limitations.

Today’s comments following the Board of Directors meeting were a sideswipe at Montella’s doubts.

“We outlined a profile and a budget in line with the previous Coach,” director general Rogg told reporters.
