Fiorentina eye ex-EPL trio

Fiorentina reportedly have a shortlist of ex-Premier League Coaches, as a deal with Stefano Pioli stalls.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Pioli is struggling to reach an agreement with former employers Inter, which is slowing down proceedings with the Viola.

The newspaper suggests that Italian trio Walter Mazzarri, Francesco Guidolin and former boss Claudio Ranieri are all on the shortlist should a deal with Pioli ultimately fall through.

Corvino: 'With or without Bernardeschi'

Fiorentina director Pantaleo Corvino assured they “will have an important squad, with or without Federico Bernardeschi.”

The Viola have effectively lost out now on hopes of a European place after their 4-1 defeat to Napoli, as if Milan beat Bologna tomorrow, sixth place is sealed up.

“Unfortunately we dropped points against smaller clubs and that is our only real regret,” Corvino told Sky Sport Italia.

Sousa: 'Napoli best I've ever faced'

Fiorentina boss Paulo Sousa admits Napoli “are one of the best sides I have ever faced throughout my career” after a 4-1 defeat.

Dries Mertens bagged a brace, while Kalidou Koulibaly and Lorenzo Insigne also found the net at the Stadio San Paolo.

“I tip my hat to Napoli, they are so organised, have great quality and were super-motivated. We conceded an early goal on a corner and that hit the team hard, then we conceded a second on the transition,” Sousa told Mediaset Premium.

Fiorentina can't lose with Kalinic

Nikola Kalinic will be in demand this summer and Chloe Beresford explains why Fiorentina will benefit whether he stays or goes.

The stage was set for an all-Italian Europa League Final in May 2015, Napoli facing Dnipro in the semi, and an admittedly tougher tie awaited Fiorentina as they were paired with Sevilla. But it was never meant to be, as somewhat against the football betting odds in Italy, neither of the two progressed, with the competition’s perennial experts finally triumphing against the Ukrainians. But through the disappointment, the Viola had spotted a player that season who would eventually make a move to Tuscany the following summer.

Two-year deal for Pioli?

It is reported that Stefano Pioli is to be handed a two-year contract to take over as Coach of Fiorentina.

The 51-year-old was sacked by former club Inter last midweek, having presided over a run of form that saw the Nerazzurri pick up just two points in seven Serie A matches.

However, a quick return to the dugout now appears inevitable, with several media outlets claiming Pioli has already agreed to succeed Paulo Sousa at the end of the season.
