Athletic Bilbao target Higuain

Athletic Bilbao are interested in signing Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain for next season, claim reports in Spanish paper Marca.

The 32-year-old is under contract with Juve until June 2021 and has contributed eight goals with eight assists in 33 competitive games this season.

According to Marca, Higuain would be able to pass the strict Athletic Bilbao criteria because he is the great-grandson of a Basque man who emigrated to Argentina.

Positive injury updates for Sarri

Juventus should have Gonzalo Higuain back in contention ahead of the first leg against Olympique Lyonnais, whilst Douglas Costa could make it for Inter.

The Argentine forward Higuain had to sit out against SPAL in Serie A last weekend but was back in training yesterday and Sky Sport Italia reports that Maurizio Sarri should have him at his disposal ahead of the important fixture in France.

The 31-year-old struggled with pain in his lower back but has trained regularly with his teammates this week.

Back problem for Higuain

Juventus could be without Gonzalo Higuain for this weekend’s trip to SPAL, as he skipped training today with back pain.

Pipita is suffering from lumbago, a condition that flares up occasionally, and a statement from the Bianconeri medical staff confirmed he will be monitored on a daily basis.

Miralem Pjanic is also a major doubt for the SPAL game after limping off with a muscular injury in the 2-0 victory over Brescia.

Adrien Rabiot is also training separately and goalkeeper Carlo Pinsoglio has flu symptoms.

Juve need someone to rely on

Maurizio Sarri has several different potential Juventus systems to choose from, writes Emmet Gates, all of them with strengths and major weaknesses.

To stick or twist? That’s the question Maurizio Sarri must ask himself as the season hurtles towards its final straight.

Sarri carved out his reputation as an attacking coach by implementing a 4-3-3 system whilst at Napoli, and religiously sticking to it without fail, to the detriment of his team at times, it must be said.

Ibra the figure Bonucci could've been

Where Leonardo Bonucci and Gonzalo Higuain failed, Zlatan Ibrahimovic can succeed at shouldering the Milan burden, argues Ramez Nathan.

It was one of the worst summers in the history of the club, as in 2017 fan’s ambitions were sky high after new chairman Yonghong Li splashed €200m to rejuvenate a side that has been struggling for years.

With all that Milan have been through in the past decade, many fans will forget where Il Diavolo ended up that year in the Scudetto race, who was coaching, what position Fabio Borini played in or how much the club paid for Andre Silva. But one thing no Rossonero will ever forget is the centre-back drafted in and immediately made captain, Leonardo Bonucci.

Immobile: 'Try for Higuain's record'

Ciro Immobile insists Lazio are not looking at a Scudetto push yet, but he would love to beat Gonzalo Higuain’s all-time Serie A scoring record.

“We wanted to start the second half of the season well and mustn’t underestimate any opposition, especially as Sampdoria were on good form,” the striker told Sky Sport Italia.

Higuain: 'Sarri and I both stubborn!'

Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain has opened up about his relationship with coach Maurizio Sarri. “We are both stubborn!”

Higuain played under Sarri for a single season at Napoli in 2015-16, in which the striker scored 36 league goals, breaking the record set by Milan legend Gunnar Nordhal in the 1950s.

The Argentine then shared a half season with Sarri whilst together at Chelsea last year, before coming together again at Juventus this season.
