Former Juventus winger Massimo Mauro feels Cristiano Giuntoli should change 15 players in the summer and insists the Old Lady’s main problem is not the attack.

Mauro shared his view on the Juventus season with the Bianconeri preparing for a home Serie A game against Salernitana and next week’s Coppa Italia Final against Atalanta.

Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa have had highs and lows this term, even though the Serbian striker is the Bianconeri’s best scorer in 2023-24. Therefore, Mauro feels Juventus should look to other roles to strengthen the team in the summer.

“Juventus strikers need better assistance, more crosses, more through balls, more consistency,” he told Gazzetta.

“Vlahovic has scored many goals this season, but sometimes he made errors from promising positions.

“Federico [Chiesa] hasn’t scored the amount of goals required to play as a striker. I prefer him as a winger, but there will always be a place in the team for Chiesa, regardless of the system. The player’s quality can’t be questioned, it’s more about consistency, but I doubt Chiesa will ever score 20 goals in a single campaign.

“However, Juventus’ problem is not the attack,” insisted the former Italian winger who has recently praised Inter star Nicolò Barella, saying that he could become as strong as Andres Iniesta.

Ex-Juventus winger urges director to ‘change 15 players’

“If I were Giuntoli, I’d take the responsibility to tell the owners that he should change 15 players,” Mauro continued.

“Juventus have good players who, taken one by one, would not struggle to play elsewhere, but they need a fresh start to revive themselves after such a season.

“Juventus almost need a revolution to change the environment and create new motivation. It is true for the players and the coach. It’s not about quality. Allegri has proved to be a valuable international coach and his abilities are not in doubt.”

Juventus have shown concrete interest in Atalanta star Teun Koopmeiners and Mauro believes the Dutchman would be a good addition.

“Out of those 15 players, at least six should be reinforcements to try to battle Inter for the title. If they target a Champions League spot, then four would be enough,” he said.

“Koopmeiners could be one of those, but you must see him with the Juventus pressure.”

Juventus finished the last two seasons empty-handed and next week’s Coppa Italia Final against Atalanta is the last chance they have to avoid completing another disappointing trophyless campaign.
