Capello: 'Three-way Scudetto race'

Fabio Capello can see a “three-way fight for the Scudetto between Juventus, Napoli and Inter” in a revitalised Serie A campaign.

After two rounds, only Juve, Inter and Torino have a 100 per cent record, while Napoli lost a last-gasp 4-3 thriller in Turin.

“I see it becoming a three-way fight for the Scudetto between Juventus, Napoli and Inter,” Capello told reporters at an awards ceremony.

Capello: 'Lukaku not world class'

Fabio Capello maintains new Inter signing Romelu Lukaku is “not world class, but Alexis Sanchez can make the difference, if he wants to.”

The Scudetto winner and former England manager spoke to Radio Deejay about the first two rounds of the Serie A season.

“The team that impressed me the most was Juventus in their first half against Napoli, but I was really let down by the Partenopei’s defence. All the other sides played well the first round and badly the second.

'Capello damaged English football!'

Michael Owen has hit out at Fabio Capello for ‘causing catastrophic damage to both my career and English football in general.’

Owen scored 222 goals for the likes of Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle United and Manchester United, while netting 40 times in 89 games for England.

However, the one-time Ballon d’Or winner played just once for his country under Capello and retired aged just 33 after injuries plagued his final few seasons.

'De Ligt will already end title race!'

Fabio Capello claims the title race in Serie A will already be over for another season if Juventus sign defender Matthijs de Ligt.

Juve are reported to be closing in on a deal for De Ligt, who is already Ajax’s captain and a full Netherlands international at 19 and had been linked with several top clubs, including Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

“If Juve sign De Ligt then it’s over. Again. And we go directly to the season after,” Capello told Corriere dello Sport.

Happy birthday, Fabio Capello

Today is the 73rd birthday of legendary Italian Coach Fabio Capello, a Champions League winner with Milan in 1994.

Born near Trieste in 1946, Capello began his career as a midfielder for Spal, before moving to Roma for 260m lire in 1967.

He scored his first goal for the club in November of that year, the winner against Juventus in a 1-0 victory.

The Giallorossi won the Coppa Italia in his second season, reaching the Cup Winners’ Cup semi-final the following season.

De Rossi deserved better

Roma’s treatment of Daniele De Rossi is the final straw for Michael Barbaro, proving club loyalty is dead and the Giallorossi have lost their soul.

May 26 is going to be an emotional day for Italian football fans. Roma announced this week that Daniele De Rossi will play his final game for the club against Parma, just two years after Francesco Totti’s farewell.

But I ask the question - why is it that in most contemporary footballing discussions and debates we beg for more players to show loyalty to their clubs when in reality clubs barely tend to show it back?

'Anfield has something in its walls!'

Alessandro Costacurta hailed Anfield for having ‘something in its walls’ as Liverpool beat Barcelona 4-0, while Fabio Capello hit out at Philippe Coutinho.

Liverpool overturned a 3-0 deficit from the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Barca, who suffered a ‘remontada’ against Roma last season.

“There must be something,” Costacurta told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s clear that comebacks don’t only happen here, but there must be something in those walls that transforms certain players.
