Capello: 'Parties & alcohol with Ronaldo'

Fabio Capello reveals Ronaldo ‘organised parties’ and brought alcohol into Real Madrid’s dressing rooms but regards him as ‘the greatest talent I’ve coached’

Ronaldo lasted just half the 2006-07 season with Capello at Madrid as he was then sold to Milan in January, and the legendary coach reflected on his time spent with the former Inter striker.

Capello: 'Who knows if Milan are right?'

Former Milan coach Fabio Capello claims ‘many clubs will suffer’ playing in empty stadiums when Serie A resumes and points out the current 'lack of continuity' at the Rossoneri.

Capello brought home four Scudetti during his time with the Diavolo, including the invincible season in 1991-92, and is not sure if his former employer are doing the right thing by planning to start again with only foreigners at the helm.

Capello: 'I rejected De Rossi-Davids swap'

Fabio Capello reveals he rejected a proposed exchange between Roma legend Daniele De Rossi and Juventus midfielder Edgar Davids.

“I wanted to bring Davids to Roma, so Juve asked for De Rossi as part of the deal. I said no,” Capello told the Corriere dello Sport.

“After having given him his debut, I warned everyone that this player was not going to budge from Roma. He proved his character as a real leader from the very beginning.”

Capello: 'Milan sicken me'

Fabio Capello is ‘sickened’ by Milan’s treatment of Zvonimir Boban and Paolo Maldini and ‘doesn’t like’ Giorgio Chiellini writing an autobiography.

Capello began his interview with Corriere dello Sport by maintaining Juventus won the 2005 and 2006 Scudetti ‘on the pitch’ after they were stripped as a result of the Calciopoli scandal.

“[Luciano] Moggi and [Antonio] Giraudo were great directors, we won [the two Scudetti] on the pitch,” he told the newspaper.

Capello: 'World Cup style retreats'

Fabio Capello suggests a World Cup-style 40-day training retreat for all Serie A clubs, as three southern cities open up to hosting fixtures away from the COVID-19 hotspots.

Most teams returned to training this week, albeit keeping social distancing measures and undergoing intensive testing with both swabs and blood samples.

The pandemic is easing considerably in Italy and the country moved into Phase Two on Monday, easing the lockdown restrictions, but it’s not yet clear how and indeed if the Serie A season will resume.

At the final whistle, Rai Sport journalist Jacopo Volpi storms the pitch to be in on the jubilant scenes, chasing the players as they were jumping up and down, hugging each other, with Volpi on their tail screaming into the microphone: “They said you were finished!”

He grabs Roberto Donadoni, who can’t hear what he said and makes Volpi repeat himself: “They said you were finished, well past it!”

Scholes: 'If Capello rang me...'

Paul Scholes claims he could have come out of retirement to play for England at the 2010 World Cup if Fabio Capello had asked him personally.

Scholes retired from international football after Euro 2004, at the age of just 29, with fellow attacking midfielders Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard breaking through.

However, he enjoyed a late resurgence in his Manchester United career, playing in a deeper role, and he admits he pulled away from the England set-up too early.

Roberto Carlos: 'Capello saved me'

Roberto Carlos has revealed how Fabio Capello is “the most important coach I’ve ever had” after Roy Hodgson ‘destroyed’ him at Inter.

Hodgson famously played Roberto Carlos in midfield, despite the Brazilian being a left-back by trade and going on to become one of the best in his position at Real Madrid.

“Roy Hodgson destroyed me at Inter, he made me play in midfield,” he told Marca.

“I wouldn’t have had the chance to play for the national team and there was the Copa America in 1997.
