Capello: Ronaldo isn't a genius

Fabio Capello claims that while Cristiano Ronaldo is ‘extraordinary and a champion’, the Juventus forward is not one of football’s three ‘geniuses’.

Ronaldo’s hat-trick fired Juve into the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday, but Capello insists the No 7 does not possess the natural flair of Lionel Messi, Diego Maradona and Pele.

“Ronaldo’s an extraordinary footballer, but Messi is a genius,” the former Bianconeri boss told Sky Sport Italia.

'Koulibaly is Napoli's Ronaldo'

Fabio Capello believes Napoli have their own Cristiano Ronaldo in Kalidou Koulibaly but admits ‘the title race is already over’.

Napoli face Juventus in Serie A this Sunday, almost a year since Koulibaly stunned the Bianconeri to take the Scudetto race down to the wire, although their arch-rivals go into the match 13 points clear at the top.

“The title race can’t be restarted on Sunday night because I think it’s already over,” Capello told Il Mattino.

Capello: Bonucci was stroked!

Fabio Capello hit out at Leonardo Bonucci for playacting during Juventus’ 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid. “He was stroked, we’re too used to it in Italy.”

Bonucci attracted scorn after TV cameras showed the Juve defender stayed down in Atleti’s box and watched them score, before claiming he had been fouled as he covered his face once the ball went in.

“Bonucci was stroked and immediately threw himself to the ground,” Capello told Sky Sport Italia.

Capello: Zaniolo like Pogba

Former Roma boss Fabio Capello believes Italy have their own Paul Pogba in breakout star Nicolo Zaniolo.

Zaniolo scored twice against Porto on Tuesday to give Roma a 2-1 lead in their Champions League last-16 tie, and Capello saw many similarities between the 19-year-old and Pogba.

“Both Pogba and Zaniolo always look to play the ball,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“They never go for the safe option. They look for more and go towards their opponents’ goal.

Capello: Inter Scudetto a 'joke'

Former Juventus boss Fabio Capello has branded the decision to award Inter the 2005-06 Scudetto a ‘joke’.

Capello’s Juve appeared to have won that season’s Serie A title on the field, before it was taken away from them due to their involvement in the Calciopoli scandal and given to their arch-rivals.

“It was a joke and clearly unfair to have assigned that Scudetto to Inter,” he said in the second part of his interview with Radio Anch’io Sport.

Fabio Capello believes Gonzalo Higuain wants to leave Milan and reunite with ‘a Coach who knows his qualities and can enhance them’ at Chelsea.

Higuain reportedly handed in a transfer request late on Sunday and played his best football under Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri at Napoli, where he achieved his career-best return of 38 goals in the 2015-16 season.

Fabio Capello urges “Napoli and the others” who are chasing Juventus not to give up on the Scudetto.

The Bianconeri have won the Scudetto for the past seven seasons in a row, and at the halfway mark this time they’re already nine points clear, leading many pundits to declare the Serie A title race is already over.

“I don’t agree, look at the available points,” Capello insisted in an interview with Il Messaggero.

Capello: 'Milan my greatest moment'

Fabio Capello has called Milan’s 4-0 Champions League Final victory over Barcelona “the most wonderful moment of my career.”

The triumph in Athens in 1994 came against the odds, with Marco van Basten injured, Franco Baresi and Alessandro Costacurta suspended.

They ran riot with a Daniele Massaro brace, Dejan Savicevic lob and Marcel Desailly to finish it off by the hour mark.
