Milan march on for Europe

Milan consolidated fourth place by squeezing past Lazio, but Giancarlo Rinaldi isn’t sure fans really want to see this team in the Champions League.

As showdowns for a Champions League dream go, it was not all that inspirational. For much of the match, Milan and Lazio looked as if they were as enthusiastic about a place in Europe as a Brexiteer cabinet minister. But, in the end, the side with by far the greater pedigree in continental competition seized its opportunity to rise above Roma into fourth place - for the time being at least.

Gattuso apologises for Acerbi shirt gesture

Ugly scenes marred Milan’s 1-0 win over Lazio, as Francesco Acerbi accused Rossoneri players of “fomenting hatred” and Gennaro Gattuso apologised.

The tense encounter erupted into a brawl at the final whistle, with Luiz Felipe and Fabio Borini seemingly at the centre of it.

After that, there was yet more controversy, as Tiemoue Bakayoko and Franck Kessie posed with Lazio defender Acerbi’s jersey in front of the Milan fans.

Gattuso: 'Milan giving everything'

Gennaro Gattuso praised Milan for “giving everything” in the victory over Lazio, but revealed he “gave myself a thigh strain” during the final brawl.

The match was decided by a Franck Kessie penalty, although the Aquile had appeals of their own in stoppages.

“In order to play against Lazio, you need to take this approach. You need pace, technique and physicality,” the Coach told DAZN.

Tare: 'Lazio knew what would happen'

Lazio director Igli Tare insists they deserved a stoppage-time penalty against Milan, but above all “we knew with the controversy after Juventus what would happen…”

The 1-0 defeat at San Siro was decided by a Franck Kessie spot-kick, awarded for a Riza Durmisi shoulder barge on Mateo Musacchio.

Less than a minute before that, Milan had been given another penalty – revoked using VAR – for Francesco Acerbi’s handball.

Ranieri: 'Different Roma in second half'

Edin Dzeko’s strike was decisive in the 1-0 win over Udinese at the Stadio Olimpico.

“We suffered a lot in the first half and tried to take away the counter-attack option from Udinese, which we eventually managed after six or seven minutes of struggle,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
