PSG set to win De Ligt race

Paris Saint-Germain are on the verge of completing the transfer for Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt, claim Sky Sport Italia, beating Barcelona and Juventus.

Manchester United had already been rejected and the Dutch starlet said he wanted to play regularly to aid his development.

The price-tag set by Ajax is in the region of €80m, so Barcelona and Juventus would have to sell before investing that sum.

Leonardo’s first move as new Paris Saint-Germain sporting director could be to poach Gianluigi Donnarumma from his old club Milan for €65m.

According to Tuttosport, the Brazilian who spent the past season as technical director at San Siro could make the goalkeeper his number one target, if he is reappointed at the Parc des Princes.

PSG are reportedly offering somewhere between €60-€65m for the 20-year-old shot-stopper, as they need another goalkeeper since Gianluigi Buffon announced his departure from Paris.

Milan dragged into modernity

Rather than downsizing of ambitions, fans should see the Ivan Gazidis revamp as dragging Milan into becoming a modern football club, writes Richard Hall.

A new era is emerging for the Rossoneri and it doesn’t include Gennaro Gattuso or Leonardo. Milan CEO Ivan Gazidis has moved on behalf of Elliott Management to make sure the club operate with a new philosophy, even if it is based out of necessity. There will be no more big transfer fees, there will be a concerted effort to balance the books and there will be a focus on youth. Whilst this might be an unfortunate situation for the red and black half of the city, it could just perhaps be the making of them.

Gazidis: Maldini 'central' to vision

Milan CEO Ivan Gazidis claims Elliott Management saved the club from bankruptcy and that Paolo Maldini is ‘central’ to his vision for the Rossoneri.

Leonardo and Gennaro Gattuso vacated their roles as sporting director and Coach of Milan on Tuesday, and Gazidis began by paying tribute to the pair.

“Elliott saved the club by injecting them with €220m of capital so they could meet their obligations at the end of July, otherwise they would’ve gone bankrupt with the risk of relegation,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
