Not much Sarri in this Juventus

Maurizio Sarri has failed to make Juventus more than the sum of their parts, writes Owen Diana, but the Champions League could save him.

When Maurizio Sarri arrived at Juventus last summer, it marked the end of an unconventional climb to the top of the coaching pyramid. By hiring the former banker, Italy’s most powerful club hoped that they could finally reach the summit of the Champions League, a tournament that had tormented them for decades. When the Champions League resumes in August, Sarri will have the chance to lead The Old Lady to an elusive third title.

Tacchinardi: 'Juve letting Sarri down'

Former Juventus midfielder Alessio Tacchinardi warns the current squad are ‘playing with fire’ and letting Maurizio Sarri down. ‘Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot have to wake up.’

The Bianconeri picked up just two points from the last three rounds, scraping draws with Atalanta and Sassuolo, while beaten by Milan despite going 2-0 up.

“I thought it was Sarri asking them to do this, but now I’ve become convinced the players just aren’t delivering what he wants,” Tacchinardi told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Bianconeri went 2-0 up within 12 minutes thanks to Danilo and Gonzalo Higuain goals, but Sassuolo came back to lead 3-2 and could’ve won it at the death if not for Wojciech Szczesny heroics and an Alex Sandro goal-line clearance.
