Inter can spend in January

Inter will be able to buy a midfielder in January, reports suggest, but further investment depends on the Chinese government.

The Nerazzurri’s board yesterday approved the accounts for 2016-17, Corriere della Sera reports,  with a loss of €24m.

However, revenue increased by 33 per cent, from €241.4m to around €321m and the net loss doesn’t necessarily mean the club will fall foul of Financial Fair Play.

Massimo Moratti admits he misses being Inter President, but once again rules out returning.

The oil tycoon sold 70 per cent of the club to Erick Thohir in 2013, before selling his remaining shares to the Indonesian in order to allow Suning Group to take over the club.

“Without a doubt I miss being President,” Moratti admitted in an interview with SportItalia.

Moratti: ‘I won’t buy out Thohir’

Former Inter President Massimo Moratti insists “I’m absolutely not going to buy a stake from Erick Thohir”.

The oil tycoon sold 70 per cent of the club to the Indonesian businessman in 2013, before selling his remaining shares to allow the takeover by Suning Group.

It has been suggested that Thohir may be looking to sell his remaining 30 per cent shareholding, with the ex-President rumoured to be coming back on board.

Moratti buys out Thohir from Inter?

There are reports that Inter President Erick Thohir will sell his 31 per cent shares to former patron Massimo Moratti.

According to Telelombardia, Thohir is ready to leave the club after originally buying it from Moratti in October 2013.

Thohir has been increasingly absent from the Nerazzurri decision process, acting as minority shareholder with Suning Group taking full control.

Thohir sorry for ‘Dutch trio’ comment

Erick Thohir has apologised for claiming Inter had a ‘Dutch trio’. “I was under a lot of pressure…”

Thohir erroneously referred to Marco van Basten, Ruud Gullit and Frank Rijkaard as the players that made him become an Inter fan, prompting widespread ridicule on social media.

“I did that interview on August 17 in Jakarta,” the Nerazzurri President told the Straits Times.

Thohir makes Inter gaffe

Erick Thohir made a gaffe when asked about why he bought Inter in 2013. “I’ve been a fan since they bought the Dutch trio…”

Thohir wrongly referred to Frank Rijkaard, Ruud Gullit and Marco van Basten, all of whom joined Milan in the 1980s, when Inter had actually signed the German trio of Lothar Matthaus, Andreas Brehme and Jurgen Klinsmann.

“Buying a football club isn’t just a matter of business, you have to love that team,” the club’s President told Metronews in his native Indonesia.

Thohir: ‘Inter not like Milan’

Inter President Erick Thohir notes “we’re different to Milan” because “we only have to refine our current squad”.

The Nerazzurri were bought by Chinese conglomerate Suning Group last summer, while their city rivals are now owned by Yonghong Li.

However, while the Rossoneri have spent over €200m this summer, the Beneamata have been rather more quiet on the transfer market.

“We’ve already signed four new players,” Thohir told Metro TV.

Thohir: ‘Perisic? Who knows…’

Inter President Erick Thohir says Manchester United target Ivan Perisic “is still our player” but admits “we don’t know the next step”.

The Red Devils have been trying to sign the winger all summer, but so far they have refused to meet the Nerazzurri’s €55m asking price.

“The Croat is still our player,” Thohir said from the Beneamata’s training camp.

“He plays and trains with us. We don’t know the next step.”

Thohir: Inter balanced, Milan…

Erick Thohir claims Inter’s Chinese owners “have a different concept” to Milan’s as he suggests the Rossoneri’s signings lack “balance”.

The Chinese consortium behind Milan has spent over €200m on 10 new players this summer, whereas Suning Group has purchased just three for Inter, but Thohir believes the Nerazzurri have better foundations in place than their city rivals.

“Both teams’ transistions were different,” the Beneamata President told the Indonesian Press, reports Tuttomercatoweb.
