Arteta: 'Always liked Mkhitaryan'

Roma’s hopes of extending Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s loan spell from Arsenal were hit by manager Mikel Arteta’s comments. “I always liked him.”

The 31-year-old arrived on loan in the summer and suffered from some injury problems, but still contributed six goals and three assists in 13 Serie A games.

During a press conference, Arteta was asked if he would recall Mkhitaryan at the end of the season.

“It’s a possibility that we have and will consider,” said Arteta.

Roma struggling to keep Smalling

It seems increasingly unlikely that Chris Smalling will stay at Roma beyond the end of the season, after Manchester United raised their valuation of the player.

Smalling arrived in Rome at the end of the summer transfer window, and after a slow start, made an immediate impact.

The 30-year-old has been reborn in the capital, and there have been reports for several months concerning a permanent stay in the capital.

The deal always hinged on whether the Giallorossi qualified for Champions League football next season.

Report: Inter insist on Mertens

Inter reportedly continue their talks with Napoli forward Dries Mertens ahead of their first leg of the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia.

Tomorrow’s semi-final could be a special game for Mertens in many ways, as Tuttomercatoweb reports that the Belgium international could return to the starting line-up after two months out.

Nicoló Schira from the Gazzetta dello Sport has also reported that the talks between the forward and the Nerazzurri are still ongoing, as Mertens contract with the Partenopei will expire after the current season.

Clubs line up for Mertens

Dries Mertens is increasingly unlikely to sign a new Napoli contract, so has interest from Inter, Manchester United, Arsenal and above all Chelsea.

The striker will be a free agent in June, but was not prepared to leave mid-season, especially as he is on the verge of breaking Marek Hamsik’s all-time record as Napoli top scorer.

Chelsea had already tried to coax the Belgian away in January, as did Inter, but Mertens and Napoli had no intention of parting early.

Juve ready to sell Ramsey?

Tuttosport claims Juventus are already planning to sell Aaron Ramsey, just a year after he was snapped up as a free agent from Arsenal.

The 29-year-old midfielder has made 19 competitive appearances in a Bianconeri jersey this season, scoring two goals.

However, he has continued to struggle with muscular problems, as injuries blighted the Wales international’s career.

Although Ramsey was technically a free agent, Juventus still had to pay €3.6m in commission to his agents.
