PSG join queue of Mertens admirers

PSG are the latest club linked with Napoli forward Dries Mertens, who will be a free agent if he doesn’t sign a new deal at the San Paolo.

The striker turned 33 yesterday and his contract with the Partenopei is due to expire on June 30.

According to Voetbalkrant.com in Belgium, Paris Saint-Germain are also keeping a close eye on the situation and could choose him to replace another ex-Napoli star, Edinson Cavani.

Mkhitaryan message 'fake news'

Agent Mino Raiola quashed 'fake news' reports regarding a message from Arsenal loanee Henrikh Mkhitaryan, allegedly asking for a move to Roma.

Il Corriere dello Sport claimed the Giallorossi playmaker hopes to remain in Italy and had sent a message to his owners in London asking of them to find an agreement with Roma.

The report also claimed the Gunners have lowered their asking price to around €10m for the Armenia international, but Raiola hits out at the story and brands it as ‘unacceptable fake news’.

Man Utd join Lozano chase

Manchester United have joined Everton, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in the race for Napoli forward Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano.

The Mexico international cost almost €40m to sign from PSV Eindhoven last year and his price-tag will be in that region again this summer.

He failed to make much of an impact at the Stadio San Paolo and does not fit well into new coach Gennaro Gattuso’s tactics.

Everton had been considered the favourites, as Carlo Ancelotti was in charge of Napoli when Lozano was purchased.

Amoroso: 'Henry almost joined Udinese!'

Former Udinese star Amoroso has revealed that Thierry Henry rejected swapping clubs with him before his historic move to Arsenal in 1999.

Henry managed just three goals for Juve in the second half of 98-99, whereas Amoroso went on to finish the season as Serie A’s Capocannoniere with 22 goals, despite playing for an Udinese side unfashionable in comparison.

The Frenchman ultimately fared more successful, signing for Arsenal in the summer of 1999 and becoming their all-time top scorer.

Report: Napoli snatch Gabriel agreement

Napoli have reportedly agreed terms with Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes, beating Everton, Arsenal, Chelsea and Leicester City.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, although Gabriel performed some medical tests with the Toffees a few weeks ago, the contract was never deposited and the transfer remains incomplete.

That gave Napoli a chance to step in and snatch a player who had been a firm target for their old coach Carlo Ancelotti, who is now at Everton.

Aubameyang available at cut price

Arsenal are reportedly prepared to let Inter transfer target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang go for €34m this summer, rather than risk losing him for free.

The 30-year-old striker was purchased for approximately double that sum from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018.

His contract only runs to June 2021 and he doesn’t seem intent on signing a new deal, so the Gunners fear a repeat of the Aaron Ramsey issue.

According to The Sun newspaper, Arsenal are prepared to sell him this summer for the cut-price sum of £30m (approximately €34m).

Fonseca: 'Two plus Mkhitaryan'

Paulo Fonseca has confirmed that he would like Roma to sign two of his former Shakhtar Donetsk stars and Henrikh Mkhitaryan on a permanent basis.

Several members of Shakhtar’s squad have been linked with following Fonseca to Roma in recent months, and the coach made no secret of his desire to bring in at least one of them.

“I know the skills of the Shakhtar players very well. They could play for the best European teams,” he told Ukrainian show Great Football.

Szczesny: 'Why I left Arsenal...'

Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny admits his Arsenal career ended when someone reported him to Arsene Wenger for smoking in the dressing room.

Szczesny was Arsenal’s No 1 until New Year’s Day in 2015, after he had lined up between the sticks during a 2-0 defeat to Southampton.

The Pole would never play another Premier League match for the Gunners and he concedes it was due to his smoking habit.

“Back at that time I was smoking regularly, and the boss knew it very well,” he told the Arsenal Nation podcast.
