Cairo: 'Ventura right for Italy'

Torino President Urbano Cairo is sure Giampiero Ventura “will do very well as Italy Coach.”

The choice to replace Antonio Conte after Euro 2016 is all but confirmed now and will be announced by the FIGC next week.

Today Cairo was one of several Toro figures attending 68-year-old Ventura’s wedding.

“We must wait for the definitive decision by the Federation, but Ventura is certainly very talented and has the ability to make his teams play intelligent and good football,” Cairo told Sky Sport Italia.

Torino President Urbano Cairo admits he “freed Giampiero Ventura for the national team”.

The veteran tactician left the Granata this week, with Sinisa Mihajlovic replacing him on the bench.

With the FIGC currently in the hunt for a new Italy CT, it was naturally assumed that Ventura would be that man.

“[FIGC President Carlo] Tavecchio called me two weeks ago to see if I’d free Ventura, so I did,” Cairo revealed on Radio 24.
