Empoli: 'Skorupski was arrogant'

Lukasz Skorupski is a very talented goalkeeper, “worthy of Inter, Roma or Napoli, but he is also very arrogant,” said Empoli President Fabrizio Corsi.

The shot-stopper spent the last two seasons on loan at Empoli, while Roma sold him to Bologna for €9m this summer.

“I have both positive and negative memories of Skorupski,” President Corsi told the Corriere della Sera.

“Physically and technically, he is a great goalkeeper, worthy of Inter, Roma or Napoli. But he is also very arrogant.

Empoli on the up

The Tuscan club ran away with the Serie B title and have the potential to keep progressing in Italy’s top flight, writes Nick Valerio.

As Juventus eased to a sixth consecutive Scudetto, the real story of the 2016-17 campaign was the great escape achieved by lowly Crotone. Davide Nicola’s history makers battled against the odds all season before a run of six wins from the final nine matches ensured the Calabrese kept their top flight status.

Andreazzoli hails Empoli promotion

Empoli Coach Aurelio Andreazzoli and President Fabrizio Corsi are celebrating their promotion into Serie A after just one season.

Today’s 1-1 draw with Novara proved enough to get the party started at the Stadio Castellani.

“We’ve done good work and I am satisfied,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia before he was doused in champagne.

Andreazzoli achieved something remarkable, as he only took over on December 17 after Vincenzo Viviani was fired.

Empoli present stadium project

Empoli presented the project for their new revamped stadium, hoping to be open for the club’s centenary celebrations in 2020.

More and more clubs are pushing to build their own arenas rather than continue renting from the local council.

President Fabrizio Corsi noted that “unlike various other projects seen around, ours is not an attempt at property speculation. There will be no construction other than the stadium.”

Corsi: 'Napoli bid €20m for Saponara'

Empoli President Fabrizio Corsi reveals “Napoli offered nearly €20m” for Riccardo Saponara in 2015, but he’ll thrive at Fiorentina.

The creative midfielder made the move to Fiorentina on an 18-month loan with obligation to buy for a reported €10m.

“Saponara gave us very little on the field this season, less than he could’ve done,” Corsi told Radio Marte.

‘Press to blame for Saponara slump’

Empoli President Fabrizio Corsi has attributed Riccardo Saponara’s poor start to the season to sections of the Press “sticking their oars” into his future.

Saponara was linked with a move to a bigger club over the summer, but despite ultimately staying at Empoli, the attacking midfielder has failed to score or assist a teammate in eight Serie A appearances so far this season.

“Saponara? There are people who wanted to stick their oars into the issue of his renewal,” Corsi told Radio Marte.

Empoli: ‘No Saponara-Milan talks’

Empoli President Fabrizio Corsi insists “we have not been contacted by Milan” for Riccardo Saponara.

The Rossoneri sold the attacking midfielder to the Tuscan side in May of 2015 for a reported €4m, having originally signed him from the same club in 2013.

After a fine season at Stadio Carlo Castellani, it has been suggested that Saponara could be set for a second San Siro spell, but Empoli’s patron denies that.

“It’s just rumours and speculation,” Fabrizio Corsi told MilanNews.
