Inter name squad for Empoli

Roberto Mancini has named his Inter squad to face Empoli, with Mauro Icardi returning to the fold.

The Argentinian striker played no part in the Nerazzurri’s friendly with Paris Saint-Germain in Doha, but is included for tomorrow’s game.

The Beneamata are looking to maintain their place at the top of Serie A, as they currently lead Napoli and Fiorentina by a point, and Juventus by three.

PSG sink Inter in Qatar

A first half strike from Jean-Kevin Augustin condemned Inter to a 1-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in Qatar.

The Nerazzurri took on Laurent Blanc’s side in a winter friendly in Qatar, with Andrea Ranocchia given a start in central defence.

There was no place for captain Mauro Icardi, even on the bench, with Stevan Jovetic leading the line, supported by Ivan Perisic, Adem Ljajic and Jonathan Biabiany.

Jovetic: ‘No Icardi problems’

Stevan Jovetic says there ‘aren’t any problems’ with Mauro Icardi and that ‘we’ll improve our understanding.’

The Montenegrin was speaking ahead of tomorrow’s friendly match against Paris Saint-Germain in Doha, and denied any rift with the Nerazzurri captain.

“Relationship with Icardi? He’s a good player, there aren’t any problems for me,” Jovetic said at today’s Press conference.

Icardi analyses Scudetto race

Inter forward Mauro Icardi feels Napoli “have something more” in the Scudetto race, while Juventus, Fiorentina and Roma are in the running.

It is extremely tight at the top of the Serie A table with five teams crammed up within a four-point radius.

“Napoli have something more than us and a great strike force,” Icardi told Sky Sport Italia.

“Fiorentina have that wonderful style of football playing ball to feet that allows them to win many games.

Jovetic: ‘Not afraid to target Scudetto’

Inter forward Stevan Jovetic is "not afraid to say the word Scudetto” but Juventus “remain the favourites”.

The Nerazzurri lead Serie A going into the winter break, one point ahead of Napoli and Fiorentina and three ahead of the Old Lady.

“We’re up there and we want to continue to do well,” Jovetic told Premium Sport.

“We’ll do our best to continue to be leaders. For my part I hope to score a lot of goals and provide assists.

Icardi: ‘Inter can’t ease up’

Inter captain Mauro Icardi is pleased with their efforts so far but “we know we can’t let up”.

The Nerazzurri lead Serie A by a point at the winter break, but lost their last fixture 2-1 to Lazio.

“We’re all very pleased but we know we can’t let up,” Icardi told Gulf-Times ahead of a friendly with Paris Saint-Germain in Doha on December 30.

“We need to keep working harder and harder because soon we’ll get to crunch time in the league and we need to be ready to give our all in every game.

Inter dressing room row?

Inter players and staff reportedly had a heated altercation after last night’s defeat to Lazio.

The Nerazzurri went down 2-1 to the Biancocelesti, with Felipe Melo giving away a penalty before being shown a red card.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Brazilian midfielder and captain Mauro Icardi had a verbal altercation in the dressing room after the match.

In addition, Stevan Jovetic and Roberto Mancini are believed to be become involved in an argument after the Montenegrin objected to being substituted.

Inter to drop Icardi to Atletico?

Inter could be planning to sell Mauro Icardi to Atletico Madrid for €40m, taking Boca Juniors' Jonathan Calleri as a replacement.

The Spanish team is after a high-profile striker and the Argentine has long been considered an ideal option, with former target Edinson Cavani from Paris Saint-Germain considered to be too expensive.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, the Nerazzurri may allow Icardi to go away for €40m, though the operation would have to wait until next June.
