Sassuolo: 'Politano costs more now'

Sassuolo director Giovanni Carnevali confirms Matteo Politano’s “price-tag has risen” since the €25m January bid from Napoli.

The winger had been on the verge of a transfer to the Stadio San Paolo in January, but the paperwork didn’t go through in time.

Now Inter, Roma, Milan and Juventus are also showing interest in the 24-year-old, who made his senior Italy debut this week.

Azzurri growing pains

There are choppy seas ahead, but Italy should focus on the positives and move in the right direction after defeat to France, writes Giancarlo Rinaldi.

As challenges go, this was like graduating from dipping your toes in the kiddies’ pool to swimming with sharks. With the greatest of respect to Saudi Arabia, their ambitions at the upcoming World Cup are a lot less lofty than those of France. Yet the Azzurri went toe-to-toe with one of the would-be winners of that competition and just about came out alive.

Roma return for Berardi

Roma are reportedly back in for Sassuolo’s Domenico Berardi, whose asking price is no longer €40m.

The forward worked with Eusebio Di Francesco during his time with the Neroverdi, and a reunion on the capital was mooted last summer.

However, the Emilian side were demanding at least €40m to sell their prize asset and the Giallorossi withdrew their interest.

According to Corriere dello Sport, there have been renewed talks over Berardi in recent weeks, and the asking price has dropped significantly.
