Verratti: 'Conte right for Italy'

Marco Verratti believes “Antonio Conte is the right man for the Italy job. With him, you play if you deserve it.”

The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder spoke to reporters at a charity event in his home town of Pescara today.

“I think Conte is the right man for the Italy job,” said Verratti ahead of next summer’s Euro 2016 tournament.

“He is the Coach we needed to lift Italy back up after some negative results. Conte doesn’t hold back with anyone and also isn’t interested if you are 20 or 30 years old.

Italy lacking midfield depth

Following an average performance that saw Italy lose out to Belgium, it is evident that the midfield is Antonio Conte’s biggest worry ahead of Euro 2016, says George Rinaldi.

It all started so well for the CT, with Antonio Candreva poking home an early goal following Simon Mignolet’s parried shot from Graziano Pelle. The constant questions regarding Conte’s squad choices ahead of the match, and his starting XI were almost obliterated after just three minutes.

The cracks began to show however, and the main source of the problem, other than a torrid showing from Leonardo Bonucci that led to the Azzurri squandering the early lead, was the midfield.

Verratti to miss Italy games

Italy and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti will miss international duty with an ankle injury.

The 22-year-old went off during last night’s 1-0 Champions League defeat to Real Madrid.

He underwent X-Rays that ruled out fractures, but today PSG announced Verratti has a sprained left ankle.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, there will be further tests to diagnose a potential lesion to the ligament.

If that is confirmed, he’d be out of action for around a month.
