Juventus in for Godin

Juventus are prepared to pay the €20m release clause for Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin if Medhi Benatia leaves, it’s reported.

According to Mediaset Premium, the Bianconeri have set their sights firmly on the 32-year-old Uruguay international centre-back.

His contract with Atleti is due to expire next summer and he has been at the club since 2010.

Benatia has been linked with Arsenal and Olympique Marseille after his World Cup performances for Morocco.

Arsenal eye up Benatia

Medhi Benatia is unsure of his Juventus future, as Arsenal join Borussia Dortmund and Olympique Marseille in chasing the defender.

The Morocco international is currently at the World Cup in Russia and confessed to reporters he was “waiting for a call” from Turin.

If he were to leave this summer, he’d likely go abroad with proposals from England, Germany and France.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Arsenal are also now in the running for Benatia’s services.

Benatia: ‘I’ll talk to Juventus’

Medhi Benatia assures he’s “very happy at Juventus”, but “at the age of 31 you have to ask yourself some questions”.

The centre-back has been heavily linked with Marseille this summer, and spoke to reporters after Morocco were eliminated from the World Cup.

“My future is going on holiday, enjoying a little rest and time with my family,” Benatia said.

“We’ll see, I’m very happy at Juve, we have a group of incredible lads and I’m happy to be part of it.

Benatia: 'Ziyech should join Roma'

Medhi Benatia confirmed he has advised his Morocco teammate Hakim Ziyech to snub Ajax and Liverpool. “I hope he joins Roma.”

The 25-year-old creative midfielder is looking to leave Amsterdam this summer and has been heavily linked with both Liverpool and the Giallorossi.

“I hope he joins Roma,” Juventus defender Benatia told reporters at the 2018 World Cup after Morocco’s defeat to Portugal.

World Cup: Unlucky Morocco crash out

Morocco laid siege to the Portugal goal, but are out of the World Cup after Cristiano Ronaldo inflicted a 1-0 defeat.

Hervé Renard’s side were the better team for the majority of the game, but an early lapse in concentration sent them home.

It didn’t take long for Portugal to open the scoring, and there was never any doubt about where the goal would come from.

Bernardo Silva opted to take a short corner to Joao Moutinho, who swung the ball into the box.

World Cup: Iran stun Morocco

Morocco started well against Iran, but were sucker punched at the death by an Aziz Bouhaddouz own goal.

Both sides needed a win in this one, knowing that Spain and Portugal await in the other group games.

Morocco started the match on the front foot, repeatedly provoking goalmouth scrambles in the Iranian box.

A training ground routine saw Hakim Ziyech presented with a glorious chance from a corner, but he miscued his shot and ended up on his backside.

Benatia: ‘Respect Garcia, but…’

Medhi Benatia admits “I respect Rudi Garcia and all his staff” amid links to Marseille but “I still have two years on my Juventus contract”.

The centre-back was a regular alongside Giorgio Chiellini this season, but has nonetheless been linked with a summer exit.

A reunion with Garcia, with whom he worked at Roma, a the Stade Velodrome has been mooted, but the Moroccan wants to respect his contract in Turin.

“I respect Garcia and all his staff,” Benatia told France Football.

Juve: Benatia out, Romagnoli in?

Juventus are ready to make a bid for Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli as a replacement for Medhi Benatia, according to Mediaset Premium.

There are suggestions Benatia’s rapport with Coach Max Allegri and some of his teammates in Turin has broken down.

Arsenal (who are on the verge of signing Stephan Lichtsteiner as a free agent) and Olympique Marseille are believed to be interested in the Morocco international.

If Benatia does leave Juventus, it’s believed they will turn to Milan centre-back Romagnoli.
