Juve thank Roma old boys

Medhi Benatia got the only goal of the game against his former club, as Juventus got past Roma, but were hanging on for dear life at the end.

The defender was decisive at the end of a chaotic move, as Alisson denied Giorgio Chiellini’s header, the rebound hit the bar and Benatia bundled over the line.

Gonzalo Higuain wasted several golden opportunities and Wojciech Szczesny also impressed against his former teammates with a reaction save on Stephan El Shaarawy.

Barzagli: ‘Benatia replaced Bonucci’

Andrea Barzagli believes Juventus have replaced Leonardo Bonucci with Medhi Benatia - “he’s a player of the same level”.

The Moroccan centre-back has played the last five matches in a row, and the Bianconeri have kept a clean sheet in each of those games.

“In my opinion, Medhi is a player who is finally showing the best of himself,” Barzagli told Sky.

Medhi Benatia believes Juventus “blew the title race wide open” with their 1-0 victory at leaders Napoli. “We had to send this signal.”

Same old Napoli-Juventus

There were plenty of surprises as Napoli and Juve met on Friday but, explains Adam Digby, the more the Old Lady changes, the more she stays the same.

Napoli have made no secret of their title ambitions, players happily discussing the pre-season “Scudetto Pact” that kept their squad intact this past summer. Making an unwritten agreement that they would stay together for at least another year, their sole aim was to try clinch the Serie A crown for the first time since Diego Maradona graced the Stadio San Paolo.

Allegri: 'Napoli still Scudetto favourites'

Max Allegri insists Napoli are “still the Scudetto favourites” after Juventus conquered the Stadio San Paolo 1-0. “Winning games isn’t all about possession.”

Gonzalo Higuain got the only goal of the game, moving the Bianconeri to within a point of the Serie A leaders.

“It was a good test tonight, the lads had some favourable situations in the first half and took the lead,” Allegri told Mediaset Premium.

Benatia: 'Juve waited for Crotone to tire'

Medhi Benatia notes Juventus kept calm and waited for Crotone to tire before smashing the minnows 3-0.

“We ran few risks in the first half, but Crotone were very well-organised, they were all behind the ball and we had to keep the ball moving. Naturally, they got tired in the second half and we made the most of it to score the goals,” the defender told Mediaset Premium.

Juventus break down Crotone wall

Crotone frustrated Juventus, but they smashed their way through with Mario Mandzukic, Medhi Benatia and Mattia De Sciglio’s first ever goal.

The Bianconeri needed a boost after one point from their last two competitive games, but despite having 81% possession in the first half, they were locked on 0-0.

Benedikt Howedes was given his Serie A debut and was left with a bloody nose following an accidental collision with Ante Budimir.

Mandzukic finally got the breakthrough by steering in Andrea Barzagli’s cross with his looping header.
