Abate: 'Zlatan is the driving force'

Former Milan full-back Ignazio Abate said Zlatan Ibrahimovic ‘continues to make a difference’ and stressed he was ‘angry he missed the penalty’ against Inter.

The Swede scored a brace to help Milan beat Inter for the first time in four years. But Abate revealed the 39-year-old was ‘angry’ that he was denied by Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic from the spot kick in the 13th minute, before scoring from the rebound.

Brahim Diaz should get the go ahead in Hakan Calhanoglu’s absence when Milan face Celtic in the Europa League.

Stefano Pioli warns Europa League opponents Celtic that Milan ‘worked hard to get into Europe and now we want to stay there.’

They already played three preliminary rounds, but the group phase begins tomorrow evening in Glasgow.

“We worked hard to get back into Europe and now we want to stay there,” Pioli told Milan TV.

Laxalt: 'Milan have weaknesses'

Diego Laxalt warns Milan: ‘Every team have weak points,’ ahead of their Europa League meeting on Thursday.

"It will be a complicated and difficult game, It will be beautiful,” Laxalt told Milannews.it.

The Uruguay International joined Celtic on loan from Milan in the summer.

Calhanoglu ruled out for 10 days

According to Sky Sport Italia, Milan will be without Hakan Calhanoglu for at least 10 days after he suffered a sprained ankle.

The Turkey international sustained the injury during a training session and was spotted on crutches this afternoon.

It’s reported the tests confirmed a sprained ankle and he will be out of action for at least 10 days.

Europa League referees

UEFA has announced the referees for the first round of fixtures in the Europa League group stage, where Roma, Milan and Napoli are involved.

Polish referee Daniel Stefanski has been assigned the Group F tie between Napoli and AZ Alkmaar at the San Paolo on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the match between Young Boys and Roma, which kicks off at 17.55 UK time the same day, has been given too Spanish match official Carlos del Cerro Grande.

Milan face Celtic at Hampden Park at 20.00 UK time, with Slovenian Matej Jug on the whistle.

Report: Musacchio closes in on return

Milan defender Mateo Musacchio reportedly closes in on a return to action, after a long spell out with an ankle injury.

The 30-year-old, who struggled to accept that the Rossoneri replaced him in the starting line-up with Simon Kjaer in January, has been out with an ankle injury since mid-June.

Musacchio required surgery during the summer, but Il Corriere dello Sport claims the Argentine is on the right path and should soon recover from the setback.
