Szczesny: 'Perfect result is 1-0'

Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny insists “1-0 is the perfect result. If we don’t concede, we usually emerge with three points.”

The Bianconeri have become the first side in Serie A history to win 16 of their opening 17 games, dropping points only in a home draw with Genoa.

Last night’s 1-0 victory over Roma completed the set thanks to a Mario Mandzukic header.

‘Bale to Juventus not impossible’

Gareth Bale’s agent replies “nothing is impossible” when asked if the Real Madrid forward could join Juventus in the future.

The Welshman is expected to be one of the leaders at the Bernabeu after Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, but he could follow the Portuguese to Turin one day.

“Gareth is very happy at Real Madrid, but if we’re talking about the future then nothing is impossible in the transfer market,” Jonathan Barnett told Tuttosport.

Bonucci: 'Juventus are clinical'

Leonardo Bonucci said “the greatest quality of this Juventus team is being clinical” after they beat Valencia 1-0 to reach the Champions League last 16.

A Mario Mandzukic goal proved enough to dispose of Valencia 1-0, but as Manchester United scraped a last-gasp win over Young Boys, the top spot in the group is still up in the air.

Juventus eye up De Gea?

Juventus are linked with David De Gea, but it’s unlikely they’ll pay the £75m asking price when Manchester United can lose him for free in 2020.

The goalkeeper has repeatedly been associated with a move elsewhere, above all to Real Madrid, but their purchase of Thibaut Courtois seems to have scuppered that idea.

According to The Sun, “sources close to both” Juventus and Manchester United claim the Bianconeri are the favourites for De Gea.

Juventus reject Navas option

It’s reported Juventus were offered Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas, but made it clear they’re happy with Wojciech Szczesny and Mattia Perin.

Gianluigi Buffon left the club in the summer after 17 years as number one, with Szczesny stepping up to replace him.

Perin was signed from Genoa as backup, but today’s Corriere di Torino believes Navas’ entourage got in touch in recent weeks to float the idea of their client moving to Turin.

Szczesny: ‘Higuain always kicks like that’

Juventus' Wojciech Szczesny knew exactly where Milan’s Gonzalo Higuain would put his penalty - “last year, as second goalkeeper, I always trained with him”.

The Polish international saved Pipita’s spot kick last night, diving low his right to push it onto the post.

“I know him, because he was one of the penalty takers last year,” Szczesny told JTV.

“Last year, as second goalkeeper, I always trained with him on penalties and of course we’d studied them.

Pipita's night of pain

Gonzalo Higuain's desperation to make his mark for Milan against old club Juventus was ultimately his downfall, explains Giancarlo Rinaldi.

Football can be a brutal business at times. It deals only in winners and losers with little room for shades of grey. On Sunday night at the San Siro it was Gonzalo Higuain’s turn to feel its wrath.

Szczesny: 'I know Higuain well'

Wojciech Szczesny knew where former Juventus teammate Gonzalo Higuain would put the penalty for Milan. “We know each other well.”

That was a decisive moment in the match, as Higuain was ready to equalise after Mario Mandzukic’s header, but Szczesny fingertipped the spot-kick on to the upright.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who whispered something in Szczesny’s ear before the penalty, went on to complete the 2-0 result.
